Job summary

Baptist Health in Lexington, KY is seeking an Ultrasound Technologist PRN I for the First Shift to support our Diagnostic and Imaging services.

You will perform ultrasound examinations, ensure image quality, and collaborate with radiologists, sonographers, and nursing staff to coordinate patient care. The role emphasizes patient safety, accuracy, and adherence to hospital protocols. Training and professional development are encouraged.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in sonography required.
• Accredited sonography program or equivalent.
• Current ARDMS certification or eligible.
• Must obtain ARDMS Abdomen and OB‑Gyn certifications within one year of hire.
• CPR for Healthcare Providers current; BLS within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Maintains a cohesive working relationship with coworkers and staff.
• Plans daily patient flow and staff scheduling.
• Provides supervision to ultrasound students during clinical rotations.
• Participates in training new employees on equipment and protocols.
• Produces quality ultrasound images for radiologist review.
• Verifies patient details and exam history before imaging.
• Archives images to PACS and notifies administrator of issues.
• Coordinates with radiology and transport for timely exams.
• Supports ACR accreditation activities as needed.
• Documents incidents and adheres to hospital policies.

Description

• Maintains a cohesive working relationship and spirit of cooperation with coworkers, other employees and related individuals.
• Sets a positive example for staff through professional knowledge, appearance, personal conduct and interactions Maintains a professional working environment and follows all hospital policies and guideline recommendations.
• Follow and implement hospital policies and guideline recommendations.
• Proactively plans and executes daily patient flow and staff schedule.
• Provides supervision and instruction to ultrasound students on site for clinical rotation.
• Actively participates in training new employees in equipment functionality, exam protocols and modifications.
• Produce quality images for Radiologist’s review with correct interpretation.
• Prepares copy of images and records image release in electronic health record.
• Verifies images archived to PACS and notifies PACS administrator of any issues.
• Send images to tele-radiology service after hours as instructed.
• Participates in image Peer Review with US Coordinator.
• Works with US Coordinator and Radiologist on ACR accreditation as needed.
• Assists US Coordinator, Radiology Manager, and Radiology Director in equipment and software selections.
• Verifies orders, verifies patient name/birth date and history.
• Documents of all incidents related to patient care on electronic health records (example-incident reports, medications given, etc.)
• Performs and documents time out procedure for invasive procedures.
• Follow department protocol for all exams.
• Provides initial interpretation for exams by department protocol.
• Works with transport and nursing units to coordinate patient exams.
• Continuously monitors the patient throughout the exam.
• Assist Radiologist and authorize providers with exams/procedures as necessary.

Qualifications

• Associate degree.
• Satisfactory completion of an accredited education program in sonography or equivalent.
• Current certification by American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or eligible.
• Must obtain ARDMS certification in Abdomen and OB‑Gyn.
• If not certified upon hire, you must obtain certifications within one year of hire.
• Less than one year.
• Current CPR for Healthcare Providers.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
• If not already certified, applicants must obtain BLS within 30 days of their hire date.
