Job summary

Great River Health in Fort Madison, IA seeks an Ultrasound Technologist to operate diagnostic ultrasound equipment and produce quality images for radiologists and physicians. The role requires independent work within a team, patient preparation, and knowledge of anatomy, PACS, and imaging techniques.

The position includes a $15,000 sign-on bonus for eligible candidates, fully benefit-eligible status, and day shifts with 9-hour shifts. Minimum wage starts at $35.79 per hour.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree from an accredited radiologic/ultrasound program is required.
  • Iowa Permit to Practice required.
  • ARDMS or ARRT certification is required upon hire or preferred.
  • BLS & First Aid certification required.
  • 1-3 years health care experience preferred.
  • Call rotation may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide sonogram results and summaries to physicians.
  • Decide image scope and determine if exam should be extended.
  • Operate PACS imaging system and adjust settings as needed.
  • Ensure optimal patient positioning and comfort during scans.
  • Obtain patient history and maintain accurate records.
  • Maintain records and QA documentation.

Education

Associate’s Degree (AA) Graduate of an accredited school of Radiologic Technology and/or Ultrasound program
Iowa Permit to Practice
BCLS & First Aid - American Heart Association
1-3 years Health care experience

Job Description

Operate diagnostic ultrasound equipment to demonstrate anatomical or physiological structures of the human body for diagnostic purposes. Produce quality images as directed by the radiologists and physicians for the diagnosis or treatment of anatomic or physiologic disorders. Demonstrate knowledge of general and cross-sectional anatomy, technical factors, basic computer skills, and PACS. Function to work independently and in a cooperative manner in teamwork-oriented atmosphere. Prepare patients for procedures by explaining the process, ensuring comfort, and obtaining relevant medical history. Perform: General Abdominal Sonography, Vascular Sonography (Doppler), OB/GYN Sonography, Small parts Sonography, and US procedures for all patient populations.

What you will do
  • Provide sonogram and oral or written summary of technical findings to physician for use in medical diagnosis.
  • Decide which images to include, looking for differences between healthy and pathological areas. Determine whether scope of exam should be extended, based on findings.
  • Use of a PACS Imaging System
  • Observe screen during scan to ensure that image produced is satisfactory for diagnostic purposes, making adjustments to equipment as required.
  • Select appropriate equipment settings and adjust patient positions to obtain the best sites and angles.
  • Prepare patient for exam by explaining procedure, transferring them to ultrasound table, applying gel, and positioning them properly.
  • Observe and care for patients throughout examinations to ensure their safety and comfort.
  • Obtain and record accurate patient history, including prior test results and information from physical examinations.
  • Maintain records that include patient information, sonographs and interpretations, files of correspondence, publications and regulations, or quality assurance records such as pathology, biopsy, or post-operative reports.
Qualifications
  • Associate’s Degree (AA) Graduate of an accredited school of Radiologic Technology and/or Ultrasound program Required
  • American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography Preferred
  • Ultrasound Tech American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) (United States of America) Upon Hire Required or
  • Radiology Technician American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) (United States of America) Upon Hire Required
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support & First Aid - American Heart Association Required
  • Child Abuse Iowa Mandatory Reporter - Iowa Department of Human Services Required
  • Dependent Adult Abuse Mandatory Reporter - Iowa Department of Human Services Required
  • 1-3 years Health care experience Preferred
  • Iowa Permit to Practice required.
  • Call rotation may be required.
  • Technologist may work in other modalities as needed.
  • FM and HCHC campuses - Echocardiography Skills strongly preferred.
