Job summary

Great River Health Systems seeks an Ultrasound Technologist to perform diagnostic ultrasound exams, including abdominal, vascular, OB/GYN and small parts, ensuring high-quality images for radiologists.

The role requires ARDMS certification, an AA degree, and may involve call rotations; Iowa licensure may be needed. Excellent patient care and teamwork are essential in a busy radiology department.

Qualifications

  • AA degree in Radiologic Technology or Ultrasound program.
  • ARDMS certification required.
  • Preferred 1–3 years healthcare experience.
  • BLS & First Aid (American Heart Association) required.
  • Iowa Mandatory Reporter for Child and Dependent Adult.
  • ARRT or ARDMS upon hire where applicable.

Responsibilities

  • Provide sonogram and summary of findings to physician.
  • Select images, differentiate healthy vs pathological.
  • Determine if exam scope should be extended based on findings.
  • Operate PACS imaging system and adjust equipment as needed.
  • Position patient and adjust equipment for best views.
  • Explain procedure and prepare patient for exam.
  • Monitor patient safety and comfort during exams.
  • Record accurate patient history and test results.
  • Maintain records of sonographs, interpretations, and QA materials.

Minimum Hiring Wage: From $35.79 per hour Job Details: $15,000 Sign on Bonus for Eligible Candidates! Scheduled Hours: 7:30am - 5:00pm Weekend Call Rotation and Holiday Rotation Required

Job Description: A Brief Overview Operate diagnostic ultrasound equipment to demonstrate anatomical or physiological structures of the human body for diagnostic purposes. Produce quality images as directed by the radiologists and physicians for the diagnosis or treatment of anatomic or physiologic disorders. Demonstrate knowledge of general and cross-sectional anatomy, technical factors, basic computer skills, and PACS. Function to work independently and in a cooperative manner in teamwork-oriented atmosphere. Prepare patients for procedures by explaining the process, ensuring comfort, and obtaining relevant medical history. Perform: General Abdominal Sonography, Vascular Sonography (Doppler), OB/GYN Sonography, Small parts Sonography, and US procedures for all patient populations.

What you will do
  • Provide sonogram and oral or written summary of technical findings to physician for use in medical diagnosis.
  • Decide which images to include, looking for differences between healthy and pathological areas.
  • Determine whether scope of exam should be extended, based on findings.
  • Use of a PACS Imaging System Observe screen during scan to ensure that image produced is satisfactory for diagnostic purposes, making adjustments to equipment as required.
  • Select appropriate equipment settings and adjust patient positions to obtain the best sites and angles.
  • Prepare patient for exam by explaining procedure, transferring them to ultrasound table, applying gel, and positioning them properly.
  • Observe and care for patients throughout examinations to ensure their safety and comfort.
  • Obtain and record accurate patient history, including prior test results and information from physical examinations.
  • Maintain records that include patient information, sonographs and interpretations, files of correspondence, publications and regulations, or quality assurance records such as pathology, biopsy, or post-operative reports.
Qualifications
  • Associate’s Degree (AA)
  • Graduate of an accredited school of Radiologic Technology and/or Ultrasound program
  • Required American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography
  • Preferred 1-3 years Health care experience
  • Preferred Basic Cardiac Life Support & First Aid - American Heart Association Required
  • Child Abuse Iowa Mandatory Reporter - Iowa Department of Human Services Required
  • Dependent Adult Abuse Mandatory Reporter - Iowa Department of Human Services Required
  • Ultrasound Tech American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) (United States of America) Upon Hire Required or Radiology Technician American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) (United States of America) Upon Hire Required
  • Call rotation may be required.
  • Iowa Permit to Practice may be required if Ultrasound Tech will also perform x-rays.
