Job summary

Southern Ohio Medical Center is seeking an Ultrasound Technologist to perform diagnostic ultrasound imaging per protocol under the Ultrasound Manager. You will protect patient privacy, assist physicians, and ensure accurate documentation and image archiving in PACS.

The role requires ARDMS registration or eligibility (abdomen/OB-GYN) within one year of hire and BLS within 90 days. Training and patient care are core elements of the position.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completion of diagnostic medical sonography program (certificate or associate degree) required.
  • ARDMS registration or eligibility in Abdomen/OB-GYN within 1 year; second registry within 2 years.
  • BLS certification within 90 days of introductory period.

Responsibilities

  • Assess physician orders and obtain patient medical history.
  • Identify patient correctly and determine exam extent; archive images to PACS.
  • Discuss imaging with radiologist and other physicians.
  • Assist physicians during procedures as needed.
  • Maintain professionalism and adhere to Standards of Behavior.
  • Train new or less experienced staff and maintain clean work area.

GENERAL SUMMARY

Works under the supervision of the Ultrasound Manager. The Ultrasound technologist's primary job function is to perform and record diagnostic ultrasound imaging studies according to regulatory and departmental protocols. Is responsible for ensuring patient privacy and confidentiality of records. Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • High School Diploma or successful completion of an equivalent High School Exam Required
  • Completion of Certificate Program or Associate's Degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography program required

Licensure:

  • ARDMS registered or ARDMS registry eligible/registered in Abdomen or OB/GYN within one year of hire required. Second registry required as determined in consultation with Ultrasound Manager within 2 years of initial hire required. If a failed attempt was made at passing the first or second registry, an extension may be granted by manager.
  • BLS within 90 day introductory required

JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES AND PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS

1. Assess physician's orders to ensure correct exam. Obtains and documents patient medical history information.

2. Properly identifies patient.

3. Determines extent of exam and archives images to PACS system.

4. Discusses imaging information with radiologist and other physicians.

5. Assists physicians during procedures as needed.

6. Behaves in a professional manner at all times (includes not abusing telephone privileges, breaks, socializing, and being consistently punctual etc.). Acknowledges and adheres to the Standards of Behavior handbook.

7. Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in the field.

8. Requests equipment service as needed.

9. Assists in training new or less experienced employees.

10. Maintains clean work area and equipment as well as par level stocking.

11. Pre-cleans, decontaminates and transports contaminated instruments according to policy

12. Performs intermediate-level disinfection and/ or high level disinfection per the Instructions for Use (IFU) by the manufacture. This includes ensuring the scopes or probes used within the department are cleaned, disinfected, maintained and stored per the IFU’s

13. Performs other duties as assigned.
