Job summary

Story County Medical Center in Nevada, Iowa, is seeking an Ultrasound Technician to join our Radiology team. Under Radiologist supervision, you will perform diagnostic and interventional ultrasound procedures and contribute to high-quality patient care.

Responsibilities include data collection, documentation, patient education, and cross-department communication. We value accuracy, teamwork, and ongoing professional development in a fast-paced hospital setting.

Qualifications

  • Graduate from an accredited Ultrasound Technology School and two-year AMA school of Radiologic Technology.
  • ARDMS registered in vascular, cardiac, abdomen, breast, OB-GYN, or registry eligible.
  • Current Iowa Permit to Practice as a general radiographer.
  • Registered with the ARRT or registry eligible.
  • BLS certification within 90 days of hire.
  • Dependent Adult and Child Mandatory Reporter certification within 90 days of hire.

  • Assist providers in gathering sonographic data.
  • Obtain, review, and integrate pertinent patient history and clinical information to support optimal diagnostic results.
  • Record and process sonographic data and pertinent observations for interpretation by the provider.
  • Exercise discretion and sound judgment when performing sonographic services.
  • Provide patient education related to medical ultrasound and promote principles of good health.
  • Maintain current knowledge through educational opportunities and conferences.
  • Provide excellent customer service and demonstrate good public relations.
  • Communicate effectively with nursing staff, medical staff, and other hospital departments.
  • Provide cross-coverage in other areas as needed.
  • Maintain supply inventory and stock supplies in work areas.

Under the direction of a Radiologist, the Ultrasound Technician performs diagnostic and interventional ultrasound procedures while exercising independent judgment, technical expertise, and initiative. This position plays an important role in providing quality diagnostic services that directly contribute to excellent patient care.

As an Ultrasound Technician, you will:
  • Perform ultrasound procedures in a variety of medical settings.
  • Assist providers in gathering sonographic data.
  • Obtain, review, and integrate pertinent patient history and clinical information to support optimal diagnostic results.
  • Perform appropriate procedures and accurately record anatomical, pathological, and physiological data.
  • Record and process sonographic data and pertinent observations for interpretation by the provider.
  • Exercise discretion and sound judgment when performing sonographic services.
  • Provide patient education related to medical ultrasound and promote principles of good health.
  • Maintain current knowledge through educational opportunities and conferences.
  • Provide excellent customer service and demonstrate good public relations.
  • Communicate effectively with nursing staff, medical staff, and other hospital departments.

What we're looking for:

Education & Credentials

  • Graduate of an accredited Ultrasound Technology School and two-year AMA school of Radiologic Technology.

  • Registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or registry eligible.
  • BLS certification within 90 days of hire.

Experience

  • 1-2 years of clinical ultrasound experience in a hospital or outpatient setting.

Skills & Abilities

  • Proficiency in operating ultrasound equipment and understanding imaging principles.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and critical-thinking abilities.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Physical ability to lift and move patients and stand for extended periods.
