Job summary

Brown University Health is seeking a diagnostic ultrasound technologist to perform complex procedures using ultrasound equipment and to produce diagnostic sonograms across all ages. You will provide routine abdominal, pelvic, obstetric, and vascular studies, and assist radiologists in interpretation.

This role requires ARDMS registration, CPR certification, and the ability to operate PACS/RIS systems while ensuring patient safety and quality of care at the Newport, RI location.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with allied health training and ultrasound experience.
• ARDMS registration required for experienced Sonographer; new grads must obtain within 6 months.
• Current CPR certification.
• Ability to sit, stand, lift 50 lbs and perform fine motor tasks with dexterity.

Responsibilities

• Performs complex abdominal, pelvic, obstetric, vascular and small part ultrasound exams.
• Provides preliminary interpretation and collaborates with radiologists.
• Operates ultrasound equipment with Doppler and vascular capabilities and maintains safety.
• Ensures room readiness, patient identification, and explains procedures to patients.
• Maintains PACS/RIS entries and participates in quality improvement activities.

SUMMARY

Performs complex technical procedures utilizing medical diagnostic ultrasound equipment and an in-depth knowledge of anatomy and physiology to produce diagnostic sonograms. Provides routine ultrasound and vascular services to patients of all ages, including neonates, children, adolescents, adults and geriatric patients.

• PVR Machine
• Performs the following vascular studies:
• Venous studies
• Vein mappings and graft surveillance
• Doppler and color Doppler venous arterial studies
• Carotid and subclavian arterial studies
• Doppler upper and lower extremities
• Pressure volume studies
• Provides radiologists with preliminary interpretation and reviews each case with radiologists.
• Sets up room and equipment appropriately.
• Monitors patient's condition during examinations.
• Utilizes color printer camera for imaging and demonstrates ability to:
• Load film and cartridge
• Trouble shoot errors
• Performs check on department crash cart and defibrillator.
• Demonstrates competency in using digital PACs system for viewing, retrieving and merging images.
• Demonstrates ability to use/trouble shoot Teleradiology and RIS systems.
• Stocks and cleans work area.
• Performs all office functions, to include RIS order entries and scheduling.
• QA's and verifies patients in the RIS.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• High school graduation, or equivalent, and satisfactory completion of allied health training program and two years of ultrasound experience in a clinical setting.
• ARDMS registration required for experienced Sonographer, new graduates must obtain ARDMS registration within 6 months of new hire date.
• Current CPR certification.
• Must be able to sit, stand and walk 1-3 hours, lift 50 lbs with good body mechanics, twist and bend frequently.
• Must be able to use both hands/wrists and perform work with extensive deviation, pinching and frequent fine motor skills.
• Far and near vision must be accurate at 20/20 with accurate depth perception, able to discriminate between red-green and blue-violet.
• Must hear whisper at 20 feet.

Pay Range: $39.56-$65.28
