Job summary

Dignity Health - Mercy Hospital in Bakersfield, CA is seeking an Ultrasound Technologist (Sonographer) to perform digital, color and duplex ultrasound studies, including fetal imaging, ensuring high‑quality images for diagnosis.

You will interact with patients, explain procedures, prepare them for scans, select appropriate transducers, verify patient identity, and present preliminary findings to physicians; strong communication and attention to detail are essential.

Qualifications

• Graduate of accredited school of sonography.
• Experience through an accredited program or BE.
• AHA BLS CPR certification.
• RDMS or RDCS certification with applicable subspecialties (Abdomen, Breast, Neurosonology, OB/GYN, Fetal/Pediatric Echo).
• Registered sonographer credentials preferred (multiple RDMS/RDCS variants).

Responsibilities

• Perform digital, color and duplex scanning.
• Select transducer, frequency and diameter appropriate for the examination.
• Conduct emergency bedside exams and provide preliminary interpretation to Radiologist.
• Verify patient identity using two identifiers and proper name/date of birth.
• Follow standard patient identification procedures.
• Assess patient condition to ensure effective communication and safety.

As our Ultrasound Technologist (Sonographer), you will utilize advanced sonographic equipment to record detailed images of blood, organs, tissues, and bodily masses, including unborn fetuses, providing critical visual data for diagnosis and prenatal care.

As our Ultrasound Technologist (Sonographer), you will utilize advanced sonographic equipment to record detailed images of blood, organs, tissues, and bodily masses, including unborn fetuses, providing critical visual data for diagnosis and prenatal care.

Every day you will directly interact with patients, explaining procedures, answering questions, and preparing them for scans. You will meticulously operate sonographic equipment, adjusting settings and patient positions to ensure clear, diagnostic images. You will monitor and care for patients to ensure their safety and comfort, select and examine images for pathologies, and present preliminary findings to Physicians.

To be successful in this role, you must possess excellent patient service and communication skills, sharp eyesight, and meticulous attention to detail. You will demonstrate strong technical proficiency, sound judgment, and advanced decision‑making skills to effectively capture and interpret sonographic data, ensuring optimal diagnostic support.

• Performs digital, color and duplex scanning.
• Selects the proper transducer, frequency and diameter for performance of the examination.
• Performs emergency exams at bedside. Demonstrates ability to recognize a diagnostic scan and render an initial interpretation to the Radiologist for interpretation.
• Verifies correct patient using two patient identifiers.
• Follows standard patient identifier of name and date of birth.
• Evaluates patient condition to see if they are capable of answering questions necessary for proper identification.

• AHA Basic Life Support - CPR

• Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer Fetal Echo or
