Job summary

Mercy Medical Center Redding is seeking a Sonographer to use advanced sonographic equipment to record detailed images of blood, organs, tissues, and unborn fetuses, providing critical data for diagnosis and prenatal care.

You will interact with patients, explain procedures, operate equipment, monitor safety, select and examine images, and present preliminary findings to Physicians. The role requires strong attention to detail and technical proficiency.

Qualifications

  • Associates of Science in Diagnostic Cardiac Sonography and an AS degree from an accredited Cardiovascular Technology Program.
  • Two years experience performing echocardiograms, including Transesophageal and Stress, in an acute-care hospital.
  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer upon hire.
  • Basic Life Support (CPR) through the American Heart Association upon hire.

Responsibilities

  • Performs ultrasound procedures with knowledge of anatomy and physiology to optimize results.
  • Performs echocardiograms including Saline Contrast studies and Stress tests.
  • Checks image quality and ensures data and quality control of work.
  • Explains procedures to patients to ensure cooperation and optimal results.
  • Maintains and cleans hospital equipment and identifies malfunctions.
  • Prepares documentation for physician information with reliability and accuracy.

Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Sonographer, you will utilize advanced sonographic equipment to record detailed images of blood, organs, tissues, and bodily masses, including unborn fetuses, providing critical visual data for diagnosis and prenatal care.

Every day you will directly interact with patients, explaining procedures, answering questions, and preparing them for scans. You will meticulously operate sonographic equipment, adjusting settings and patient positions to ensure clear, diagnostic images. You will monitor and care for patients to ensure their safety and comfort, select and examine images for pathologies, and present preliminary findings to Physicians.

To be successful in this role, you will possess excellent patient service and communication skills, sharp eyesight, and meticulous attention to detail. You will demonstrate strong technical proficiency, sound judgment, and advanced decision-making skills to effectively capture and interpret sonographic data, ensuring optimal diagnostic support.

  • Performs all ultrasound procedures with a sound understanding of anatomy, physiology, positioning, and the mechanisms used so that independent selection and modification of technical factors may produce optimal results.
  • Performs echocardiograms including but not limited to Saline Contrast studies, Transesophageal Echocardiograms, and Stress Echocardiograms.
  • Checks the quality of images and scans in general and is responsible for the data and quality control of work performed.
  • Explains procedures to patients and/or family members to ensure cooperation and optimum test results.
  • Maintains and cleans various hospital equipment which includes identifying malfunctions when they occur and ensuring they are kept in good working order.
  • Prepares documentation for physician information which includes ensuring information is reliable and accurate
