Job summary

Piedmont Global is seeking a Ukrainian Language & Culture Instructor for NFATC in Arlington, VA. This full-time, onsite assignment runs April 20, 2026 – August 15, 2026, with duties including teaching Ukrainian, using established materials, and assessing progress in a student-centered environment.

Candidates should be fluent in Ukrainian (ILR 4+), hold BA/BS or higher, and have 3+ years’ experience teaching Ukrainian to adult learners with proficiency-based curricula.

Qualifications

• Educated, proficient speaker of Ukrainian (preferably ILR Level 4 or higher).
• Cultural background of Ukraine and the region.
• BA/BS, MA/MS, Ph.D., or foreign-equivalent degree(s).
• Three years teaching Ukrainian to adult learners.
• Three years teaching with proficiency-based or task-based curricula.
• One year administering proficiency-based assessments (DLPT/OPI or quizzes).
• Basic computer skills (email, Office suite, online meeting tools).
• Experience with hybrid teaching.

Responsibilities

• Plan and conduct group Ukrainian language classes onsite in Arlington, VA.
• Use established materials and collaborate with LTS and instructors on testing matters.
• Assess students’ progress and adapt teaching techniques.
• Conduct progress assessments and provide feedback.
• Provide a respectful, student-centered environment and constructive feedback.
• Maintain online classroom environment via the FSI LMS.
• With COR approval, participate in non-classroom activities in DC area.

Piedmont Global, a Strategic Globalization Organization (SGO), is looking for experienced Ukrainian Language Instructors for the School of Language Studies at the National Foreign Affairs Training Center (Formerly FSI). The current assignment is for the following period:

April 20, 2026 – August 15, 2026

If selected by NFATC, the position is full-time and onsite for the duration of the contract.

Piedmont Global serves the DC Metro community and the world with a full range of language services, such as language instruction, interpretation, translation, transcription, cultural sensitivity training, and localization. Our network of language professionals provides expertise in more than 200 languages, including regional dialects.

Duties

• Plan and conduct group Ukrainian language classes in a small-group setting, onsite in Arlington, VA.
  
• Use established materials and work collaboratively with the LTS and other instructors on the team on training and/or testing matters.
  
• Assess students’ progress and provide feedback; consult with the LTS and adapt teaching techniques to the students’ individual needs.
  
• Conduct informal and formal progress assessments to evaluate students’ progress.
  
• Provide a respectful, student-centered environment and offer encouragement and constructive feedback.
  
• Maintain an online classroom environment through the Foreign Service Institute’s Learning Management System.
  
• With pre-approval by the COR, plan and/or participate in non-classroom activities in the Washington, DC area.
  

Requirements

Required Qualifications

• Educated, proficient speaker of Ukrainian (preferably Level 4 or higher on the ILR scale).
  
• Cultural background of Ukraine and the region.
  
• BA/BS, MA/MS, Ph.D., or foreign-equivalent degree(s) in any field.
  
• A minimum of three (3) years of experience teaching Ukrainian as a foreign language to adult learners (two or more students).
  
• A minimum of three (3) years of experience teaching the Ukrainian language with proficiency-based or task-based curricula.
  
• A minimum of one (1) year of experience administering proficiency-based assessments (serving as an NFATC tester or rater, administering DLPT or OPI exams, or administering task-based quizzes or weekly assessments).
  
• Knowledge of basic computer skills, e.g., email, Microsoft Office Suite, and online meeting software (Zoom, Skype, MS Teams, WebEx).
  
• Experience with hybrid teaching.
  

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience developing foreign language instructional material and/or curricula.
  
• Experience teaching with the communicative approach to language teaching and incorporating a range of educational technologies in teaching.
  
• Experience delivering training targeted to the needs of the diplomatic community.
