Piedmont Global, a Strategic Globalization Organization (SGO), seeks experienced Foreign Language and Culture Instructors to deliver language training, mentoring, and testing at the National Foreign Affairs Training Center in Arlington, VA.

Plan and conduct small-group classes onsite, use established materials, and assess progress with feedback. Candidates should have ILR Level 4+ and a minimum of three years teaching adults in group settings.

Qualifications

• BA/BS, MA/MS, Ph.D., or foreign equivalent degree in any field.
• Three years of language teaching experience to adult learners in group settings.
• Experience administering proficiency-based assessments (e.g., FSI testing, DLPT, OPI).
• Basic computer skills including email and online meeting software.

Responsibilities

• Plan and conduct small-group language classes onsite in Arlington, VA.
• Use established materials and collaborate on training and testing matters.
• Assess students’ progress and provide feedback; adapt teaching methods as needed.
• Conduct progress assessments to evaluate student learning.
• Maintain a respectful, student-centered learning environment; provide constructive feedback.
• Manage an online classroom environment via the Learning Management System.
• With COR approval, plan or participate in non-classroom activities in the DC area.

Piedmont Global, a Strategic Globalization Organization (SGO), is looking for experienced Foreign Language and Culture Instructors to provide language training, mentoring, and testing in multiple languages at the School of Language Studies at the National Foreign Affairs Training Center (NFATC), U.S. Department of State. This opening is for an active candidate pool for the 2026–2027 academic year at NFATC.

Duties

• Plan and conduct small-group language classes onsite in Arlington, VA.
  
• Use established materials and collaborate with the LTS and other instructors on the team regarding training and/or testing matters.
  
• Assess students’ progress and provide feedback; consult with the LTS and adapt teaching techniques to meet students’ individual needs.
  
• Conduct informal and formal progress assessments to evaluate student progress.
  
• Provide a respectful, student-centered learning environment while offering encouragement and constructive feedback.
  
• Maintain an online classroom environment through the Foreign Service Institute’s Learning Management System.
  
• With prior approval from the COR, plan and/or participate in non-classroom activities in the Washington, DC, area.
  

Requirements

Required Qualifications

• Educated speaker of the target language, preferably at Level 4 or higher on the ILR scale.
  
• Cultural background in the specific country or geographic area, demonstrated by having been raised or educated in that country or by having lived in an enclave or heritage community in another country.
  
• BA/BS, MA/MS, Ph.D., or foreign equivalent degree in any field.
  
• A minimum of three (3) years of experience teaching the respective foreign language to adult learners in group settings of two or more students.
  
• A minimum of three (3) years of experience teaching the respective foreign language using proficiency-based or task-based curricula.
  
• A minimum of one (1) year of experience administering proficiency-based assessments, such as serving as an FSI tester or rater, administering DLPT or OPI exams, or administering task-based quizzes or weekly assessments.
  
• Basic computer skills, including email, Microsoft Office Suite, and online meeting software such as Zoom, Skype, Microsoft Teams, and Webex.
  
• Experience with hybrid teaching.
  

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience developing foreign language instructional materials and/or curricula.
  
• Experience using the communicative approach to language teaching and incorporating a range of educational technologies into instruction.
  
• Experience delivering training tailored to the needs of the diplomatic community.
