Job summary

New Wave People is seeking an experienced UX Design lead in a hybrid role in New York. You will drive UX strategy for mobile apps used by riders on buses and subways, shaping design systems and collaborating with engineers and product teams.

You will lead a team of designers, work in an agile environment, and present research findings to senior leadership, ensuring a high-quality, accessible user experience across platforms.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in UX design with mobile apps.
• Proven experience leading UX for complex digital products.
• Experience with design systems and agile development.
• Experience in transportation or related fields (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Define and maintain design systems and style guides across digital platforms.
• Collaborate with UX researchers to understand rider needs and feedback.
• Partner with product managers, engineers and stakeholders to align user needs with business goals.
• Establish UX processes and implement user testing and quality control.

Job Description: This role will be a Hybrid Role (3 days Onsite / 2 Remote)

M-F 37.5 hrs weekly

.30 Minute Unpaid Lunch Break

No Holiday work, Overtime or travel required

Consultant will join a team of 20 engineers and product managers, focusing on improving the rider experience across buses and subways.

Responsibilities

UX Strategy

• Develop and maintain design systems and style guides to ensure consistency across digital platforms (including all signage for NYCT/LIRR/MNR).
• Partner with UXR to understand rider needs, behaviors, and pain points. Maintain a user feedback loop to continuously improve the user experience.

Collaboration & Communication

• Collaborate closely with product managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment on user needs and business goals.
• Partner with Creative team (who own the company brand).
• Present design concepts and research findings to senior leadership and other stakeholders.

Process Development

• Establish and document UX processes, and best practices.
• Implement user testing, and other quality control measures.

Qualifications

Experience

• 8+ years of experience in UX design, with a focus on mobile applications.
• Proven experience leading UX for complex digital products
• Experience working in agile development environments.
• Experience with design systems.

Skills

• Strong leadership skills to champion user-centered design practices
• Proficiency in UX design tools, and excellent visual design skills
• Excellent communication and presentation skills
• Ability to work effectively with complexity, with close attention to detail

Preferred

• Experience in the transportation industry or related fields.
• Experience with accessibility guidelines

Salary commensurate with scope of work job experience

Proper footwear required to perform tasks in a safe manner.
