Job summary

Litter-Robot seeks a skilled UX/UI Designer to lead end‑to‑end design for mobile apps and embedded HMI interfaces. You will translate research into wireframes, prototypes, and production assets, building scalable design systems in Figma and ensuring consistency across platforms.

The role requires strong user research, collaboration with firmware and hardware teams, and experience with accessibility and localization for international products. Hybrid work in Auburn Hills, MI is supported.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in UX/UI Design, HCI, or related.
  • Three years in UX/UI design for mobile apps and hardware/software interfaces (HMI).
  • Portfolio of shipped products, including mobile apps and/or HMI-based interfaces.
  • Experience with Figma and design documentation tools; Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Experience conducting user research and usability testing; convert findings into actionable design decisions.
  • Experience with HMI design considerations including tactile feedback, screen states, embedded display limitations, and interaction with physical controls.
  • Experience with Mobile design guidelines (Apple HIG, Material Design).
  • Experience creating high-fidelity wireframes, interactive prototypes, and production-ready design assets.
  • Experience explaining design decisions to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience working in agile or cross-disciplinary product development teams.
  • Manage multiple projects with competing deadlines.
  • Alternately: Master’s degree + 1 year experience as stated.

Responsibilities

  • End-to-end UX/UI design for mobile and connected device interfaces.
  • Apply user-centered design to software and hardware (HMI) interaction models.
  • Conduct user research via interviews, usability testing, surveys, and data analysis.
  • Translate findings into wireframes, prototypes, and UI specifications.
  • Develop and maintain scalable design systems and UI components in Figma.
  • Create icons, illustrations, and screen layouts aligned with iOS and Android guidelines.
  • Document interface patterns and interaction behaviors for cross‑platform use.
  • Collaborate with firmware and hardware teams to align HMI with product experience.
  • Contribute to accessibility, usability, localization planning for international support.
  • Participate in cross‑functional design reviews and present rationale.
  • Ensure compliance with internal design standards and improve processes.
  • Support QA and development teams in handoff and fidelity.
  • Take on additional responsibilities as required.

  • Responsible for end-to-end UX/UI design efforts for mobile and connected device interfaces, from concept to implementation
  • Applies user-centered design principles to define and improve interaction models for both software (mobile, web) and hardware interfaces (HMI)

ALTERNATE EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Employer will accept a Master's degree in UX/UI Design, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), or related and one (1) year in any occupation with experience in UX/UI design, designing for mobile applications and hardware/software interfaces (HMI). Must have skills listed above.

HYBRID EMPLOYEE:

Reports to company headquarters in Auburn Hills, MI. Can work remotely up to 20%.
