Job summary

Mercer Advisors is seeking a Tax Director to lead high-net-worth and UHNW tax planning. You will deepen client relationships, review returns, and deliver projections with a client-first approach. The role offers a collaborative environment, no audits, and a focus on work-life balance.

The position requires 15+ years in tax, CPA/JD, strong communication, and advanced tax knowledge. Hybrid work near West Coast or Mountain regions is available, with standard business hours and tax-season demands.

Qualifications

• Minimum 15+ years of public accounting experience or equivalent tax experience.
• Advanced degree or designation required (CPA or JD, MS/LLM).
• Advanced tax knowledge and application.
• Experience with CCH Axcess, including Axcess, Workflow and Practice, and SafeSend, a plus.
• Highly organized with strong time management.
• Ability to communicate complex concepts clearly to clients.
• Must be detail-oriented and client-focused.
• Team player who collaborates well across teams.
• Mentor and guide junior staff as needed.

Responsibilities

• Identify UHNW tax goals and develop recommendations aligning with tax and financial planning objectives.
• Communicate complex tax solutions clearly to clients and advisors.
• Build and maintain meaningful client relationships to ensure retention.
• Review and sign various tax returns for UHNW clients (individual, gift, trust, corporate, partnership).
• Provide insights on entity structures, family businesses, and philanthropic strategies.
• Research sophisticated wealth transfer models and tax implications across federal/state laws.
• Deliver tax strategy and returns with clear client communication.
• Coordinate with tax staff to respond to notices and correspondence.
• Mentor junior staff and contribute to knowledge growth across the team.
