Job summary

Block-Institute in Brooklyn, NY is seeking a part-time Facilities Maintenance Technician to perform routine building upkeep and minor repairs. The role requires a High School Diploma or GED, and experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintaining all aspects of the building (interior and exterior) by performing minor repairs across plumbing, electrical, painting, wall repair, carpentry and masonry.
• Knowledge of fire codes / safety and reporting hazards to supervisor.
• Move furniture when necessary and respond to work orders promptly with good customer service.
• Install, build, and assemble Program equipment; perform light plumbing tasks and drain clearing as needed.
• Shovel sidewalks of ice/snow and attend in-service trainings as scheduled.
• Must follow verbal and written instructions and participate in trainings; interact appropriately with individuals we serve.
• Troubleshoot and make routine repairs in painting, minor electrical, and minor plumbing.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Maintaining all aspects of the building (interior and exterior) by performing any necessary minor repairs. Minor repairs can include, but are not limited to certain aspects of : Plumbing, Electrical, Painting, Wall repair, Carpentry, Masonry, Basic construction and repair, Basic appliance repair.
• Knowledge of fire codes / safety
• Move furniture when necessary
• Install, build, assemble Program equipment
• Shovel sidewalks of ice/snow
• Attend in-service trainings
• Report any safety/maintenance hazards to your supervisor and repairing what can be repaired
• Respond to work orders in a timely basis and provide exceptional customer service
• Be available to drive for any given program, in case of emergency, when available
• Attend scheduled meetings with the Facilities Supervisor and/or Manager
• Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions
• Light plumbing, change faucets, pull and reinstall rear mount toilets, snake drains with a power snake
• Interact appropriately and follow all regulatory items concerning the individuals we serve
• Mandatory attendance at required in-service training, along with ability to absorb and demonstrate compliance with all regulations and Block Institute policy and procedure requirements is required for this position
• Troubleshooting and making routine repairs in the following areas:
  • Painting
  • Minor Electrical
  • Minor Plumbing
