Job summary

Block Institute is seeking a Part Time Facilities/Maintenance Associate to maintain and repair building interiors and exteriors at the Bay 44th St. location in Brooklyn, NY.

The role requires a High School Diploma or GED, and preferred 3 years of experience with a NYS driver's license, with an hourly pay of $17.50. The candidate will perform minor plumbing, electrical, painting, carpentry, and masonry tasks, ensure safety compliance, respond to work orders, and assist with program equipment

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• 3 Years Experience Preferred.
• A valid NYS Drivers’ License is required.

Responsibilities

• Maintain building interiors and exteriors by performing minor repairs (plumbing, electrical, painting, carpentry, masonry).
• Ensure compliance with fire codes and safety regulations.
• Move furniture as needed and install or assemble Program equipment.
• Shovel sidewalks of ice or snow and attend in-service trainings.
• Respond to work orders promptly and provide good customer service.
• Be available to drive for programs in emergencies and attend scheduled meetings with Facilities Supervisor/Manager.
• Follow verbal and written instructions and adhere to Block Institute policies.
• Perform light plumbing tasks (change faucets, drain snaking) and basic repairs.
• Troubleshoot and perform repairs in painting, electrical, and plumbing areas.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Maintaining all aspects of the building (interior and exterior) by performing any necessary minor repairs. Minor repairs can include, but are not limited to certain aspects of : Plumbing, Electrical, Painting, Wall repair, Carpentry, Masonry, Basic construction and repair, Basic appliance repair.
• Knowledge of fire codes / safety
• Move furniture when necessary
• Install, build, assemble Program equipment
• Shovel sidewalks of ice/snow
• Attend in-service trainings
• Report any safety/maintenance hazards to your supervisor and repairing what can be repaired
• Respond to work orders in a timely basis and provide exceptional customer service
• Be available to drive for any given program, in case of emergency, when available
• Attend scheduled meetings with the Facilities Supervisor and/or Manager
• Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions
• Light plumbing, change faucets, pull and reinstall rear mount toilets, snake drains with a power snake
• Interact appropriately and follow all regulatory items concerning the individuals we serve
• Mandatory attendance at required in-service training, along with ability to absorb and demonstrate compliance with all regulations and Block Institute policy and procedure requirements is required for this position
• Troubleshooting and making routine repairs in the following areas:
  • Painting
  • Minor Electrical
  • Minor Plumbing
