Qualifications

  • 3+ years of utility locating or related field experience.

  • Ability to work independently and manage daily field assignments.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.
  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record.
  • Willingness to travel for project assignments.

Responsibilities

  • Locate and mark underground cables, pipes, conduit, and other utility lines using electronic locating equipment, GPS, utility maps, blueprints, and other locating methods.
  • Read and interpret utility maps, prints, work orders, and job-site drawings to determine underground utility paths.
  • Accurately mark utilities prior to excavation in accordance with 811 and applicable damage-prevention requirements.
  • Coordinate with contractors, property owners, utility representatives, and local authorities regarding utility locations and field conditions.
  • Document completed locates, job-site conditions, utility information, and field activity using tablets or required reporting systems.
  • Inspect, maintain, and calibrate locating equipment to ensure accurate and reliable operation.
  • Work safely around excavation activities, traffic, heavy equipment, and existing underground utilities.
  • Represent the company professionally when interacting with customers, contractors, vendors, and the public.

Utility Locators are responsible for accurately identifying and marking underground utilities to help prevent damage during excavation and construction activities. This is a field-based role that requires strong attention to detail, independent work, and travel to project locations as needed.

Key Responsibilities
  • Locate and mark underground cables, pipes, conduit, and other utility lines using electronic locating equipment, GPS, utility maps, blueprints, and other locating methods.
