Job description

This Sr. Field Engineer position will oversee a TxDOT project daily. Responsibilities include managing inspection resources, coordinating with field staff and project managers, and overseeing testing. The role involves coordinating and monitoring inspection efforts on moderate to complex projects to ensure compliance with design plans, specifications, and contracts. You will assist in resolving project issues, evaluate construction techniques, review submittals, and focus primarily on TxDOT CEI projects. This is a lead role involving mentoring and training junior staff.

What You'll Do:

  1. Inspect, monitor, and oversee construction activities to ensure conformance to plans and specifications, including administering KPIs and budgets.
  2. Perform or supervise on-site material testing, review plans for material requirements, and track quantities for pay estimates.
  3. Initiate field changes, identify discrepancies, review contractor reports, and prepare progress reports.
  4. Consult with the Resident Engineer, recommend solutions, and act as a liaison with the engineer of record.
  5. Stay current with industry technology, utilizing tools like GPS/Rovers to improve inspection accuracy and efficiency.
  6. Assist with office engineering tasks, including handling RFIs, submittals, and constructability reviews.
  7. Lead daily assignments, mentor staff, and monitor project controls.
  8. Recruit, hire, develop, and retain staff, managing performance and schedules.
  9. Perform other duties as assigned.

What You'll Need:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Engineering with 6 years relevant experience, or
  2. Master's degree with 5 years relevant experience, or
  3. Doctorate with 4 years relevant experience.

What You'll Bring:

  1. Industry standards knowledge for workmanship and materials.
  2. Effective deployment of resources.
  3. Leadership in the absence of the PM/RE.
  4. Advanced skills in shop drawing review and CPM schedule analysis.
  5. Professional Engineer (PE) license.

What We Prefer:

  1. Optional: CCM, ACI, PMP certifications.
  2. OSHA 10 certification preferred.
  3. Experience with SiteManager and TxDOT CEI projects.
