  • J.D. or equivalent required; admitted to New York bar or eligible for admission soon.
  • Excellent written and oral communication; strong analytical abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively; supervise other lawyers.

Responsibilities

  • Conceive, develop, file, and litigate new cases; draft/edit briefs; present oral argument; oversee factual research and memos.
  • Set strategic direction; design and implement research and public education programs.
  • Contribute to research program through discussions on initiatives and writing.
  • Speak on behalf of the Institute to professional and academic audiences; write for legal and non-legal audiences; represent the Institute in media.
  • Supervise legal fellows and interns; manage relationships with partners inside and outside Columbia University.
  • Travel as required for litigation, conferences, and speaking engagements.
