Job summary

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Vision Rehabilitation, or related field is required.
  • Master’s degree in Education of Students with Visual Impairments is preferred.
  • Texas EC-12 Visual Impairment certification required.
  • ACVREP Orientation and Mobility Specialist certification is preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of IDEA and ARD process; CPR preferred.
  • Bilingual skills preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Develop IEPs and IFSPs with ARD committees addressing the unique needs of students with visual impairments.
  • Deliver instruction in Braille literacy, assistive technology, daily living skills, sensory efficiency, and compensatory skills.
  • Collect, analyze, and document student progress data to assess growth and effectiveness of instructional strategies.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, paraprofessionals, O&M specialists, related service providers, and families; participate in ARD meetings.
  • Advocate for and implement accommodations, modifications, and assistive technologies to ensure equitable access to the curriculum.
  • Prepare students for post-secondary education, vocational settings, and independent living.
  • Develop plans to enhance safety and independence, including orientation and mobility skills where applicable.
