Job summary

Northern Michigan University is seeking a TV Station Manager to lead the day-to-day operation and continued development of WNMU-TV, providing strong leadership to a team of professionals and students while advancing programming, community engagement, fundraising, student learning, and the station’s long-term sustainability.

Exempt = not eligible for overtime

Work Schedule:

Traditionally Monday-Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00pm with occasional evening and weekend work required.

Salary:

Targeted Salary Range: $62,000-$66,500

Travel:

Less than 10%

Brief Statement of Duties

Lead the day-to-day operation andcontinued development of WNMU-TV, providing strong leadership to ateam of professional and student employees while advancing thestation's programming, community engagement, fundraising, studentlearning and operational goals. Coordinate national programming,local productions, and daily station activities while ensuringregulatory compliance. Support donor and underwriting developmentthrough integrated on-air and digital fundraising efforts. Workwith engineering and programming staff to monitor technicalperformance, review audience data, and assist with coordinatingcommunity outreach. Support student experiential learning and helpdevelop regional partnerships that advance the station’s long-termsustainability.

Minimum Qualifications

Required Education: Bachelor's Degree

• Five years ofprogressively responsible experience in television production,broadcast operations, public media, or a closely related field,preferably in a non-commercial environment.
• Two years' experience with unit management, leadership orsupervision.
• Demonstrated experience planning and completing projects involvingmultiple stakeholders and competing priorities.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, or Attributes Required forSatisfactory Performance of the Position Duties

• Demonstrated initiative, sound judgment, and ability to identifyopportunities and problems, develop solutions, and take action withlimited supervision.
• Knowledge of and direct hands-on experience with broadcasttelevision systems and video production equipment.
• Time management skills and the ability to work on concurrentprojects.
• Strong written communication skills, the ability to write in scriptformat, and the ability to speak in public on industry-relatedtopics.
• Understanding of non-commercial fundraising.
• PC or Mac computer skills.
• Demonstrated ability to plan and execute projects throughcompletion and meet external deadlines.
• Interpersonal skills.
• Ability to calm stressful situations.

Additional Desirable Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Broadcasting, Communications, or relatedfield.
• One year of experience as a video producer/director.
• Basic knowledge of broadcast laws and FCC regulations andrules.
• Understanding of video and audio production technologies and thefundamental engineering concepts that are associated with digitalsystems.
• On-air experience.
• Understanding of the public media system and fundraisingconcepts.
• Experience using data analytics to drive programmingdecisions.
• Masters degree and/or professional industry certifications.
