Job summary

North Central Texas College is seeking a part-time Accounting Tutor to support students on the Corinth campus. You will conduct group study sessions, assist with homework and exam preparation, and create supplemental materials to reinforce accounting concepts.

This in-person role requires a faculty recommendation or accounting coursework GPA of 3.0, and work up to 19 hours per week with scheduling around classes and evenings. A background check may be required.

Job Summary

The Tutor for the Accounting Department at NCTC plays a crucial role in supporting the instructional success of the students by providing additional assistance and guidance for difficult accounting courses in traditional and accelerated formats. This position aims to enhance student learning, foster a collaborative learning environment, and contribute to the overall success of students in their academic pursuits including educational credentials and industry-recognized certifications. This is a part-time position with no more than 19 hours a week. This is an in-person role on the Corinth campus.

Responsibilities and Duties:

• Conduct regular group study sessions to review course material, discuss challenging concepts, and provide additional clarification on accounting principles. These sessions aim to reinforce understanding through collaborative learning.
• Provide guidance and support to students as they work on homework assignments, practice problems, and other coursework. This includes helping students understand the application of accounting concepts and reinforcing problem-solving skills.
• Assist students in preparing for exams by preparing review materials based on instructor lectures, reviewing key topics, practicing sample questions, and discussing effective study strategies.
• Conduct for one-on-one consultations to address individual student questions, concerns, and difficulties with the course material. This personalized support can help students who may struggle with specific concepts or need extra assistance.
• Maintain communication with the primary course instructor to stay informed about the course curriculum, assignments, and any changes. Collaborating with the instructor ensures that supplemental sessions align with the course content and meet the needs of the students.
• Attend lecture sessions at remote learning sites for student support.
• Develop supplementary materials such as study guides, practice quizzes, and worksheets to aid student comprehension and reinforce learning objectives.
• Other duties as assigned. Responsibilities and duties may change based on the needs of the department and the institution.

Required Education

Peer tutors (students) must have a recommendation from a faculty member and have completed the accounting class with an A or B and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. Professional tutors must submit transcripts and have successfully completed college accounting courses with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
