Job summary

Cuyahoga Community College is seeking a Part-Time Accounting Tutor to work with students individually or in small groups, supporting independent learning and helping them achieve academic goals.

Ideal candidates will have associate’s degree and strong communication skills, with the ability to explain concepts clearly and manage multiple students and tasks in a college setting.

Responsibilities

  • Supports the department’s goal of providing students with supplemental academic support.
  • Provides one-on-one and small group tutoring support.
  • Provides subject-specific content strategies attuned to different learning styles and preferences.
  • Assists with the use and setup of equipment and learning materials.
  • Conducts class visits and helps publicize the college’s tutoring services.
  • Maintains accurate records and completes paperwork by deadlines.
  • Assists with development and maintenance of instructional materials.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Description
SUMMARY
Tutor Module 1: Accounting

The Accounting Tutor worksdirectly with students, either one-on-one or in small group sessions, aiming tofoster independent learning and help students achieve their academic goals.

To be effective in this role,tutors should have knowledge from courses such as:
  • Managerial Accounting
  • Cost Accounting
  • CPA Review

Other Tutoring Topics coveredinclude: ledgers, preparing income taxes, preparing financial statements, andcost analysis.

ESSENTIALFUNCTIONS
  • Supportsthe department’s goal of providing students with supplemental academic supportby:
  • Provides one-on-one and small group tutoring support
  • Provides subject-specific content strategies, attuned to different learning styles and preferences, to help students understand key concepts learned in class
  • Provides direct assistance in the use of equipment and learning materials needed for student’s success
  • Conducts “class visits” and assists with publicizing the College’s tutoring services
  • Assists with the maintenance of accurate records in accordance with stated deadlines
  • Completes all necessary paperwork accurately and according to stated deadlines
  • Assists with the development and maintenance of departmental instructional materials
  • Performs other duties as assigned

  • The work is performed in a normal, professional office environment.
  • The work area is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated.
  • Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the duties of the job and will perform repetitive motions with hands/fingers using a computer mouse and keyboard to type. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items such as papers, files, pamphlets, books, etc.
  • Work may also require walking and standing in conjunction with travel to and attendance at meetings and conferences away from the worksite.
Set-Rate Non-Bargaining Part-Time Position: This is a Part-Time Non-Bargaining Unit Position, with the following Set Rate of Pay: $18.21/ hour.
