Job summary

YMCA of Northwest North Carolina is hiring a part-time Tutor for the Davie Family YMCA in Mocksville, NC. The role involves leading a group of up to 14 teens after school with academic support and enrichment activities.

The tutor must be a certified teacher in reading, math, ELA, and science, and should be reliable and a positive role model focused on student safety and engagement. Schedule is Tuesdays and Thursdays 5:00 pm–7:00 pm on school days.

Qualifications

• NC Teaching Certification.
• Bachelor's Degree (BA/BS) from a four-year college or university.
• Experience working with children and a diverse community.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• CPR and First Aid Certifications preferred but training may be provided.

Responsibilities

• Lead a group of up to 14 middle and high school students in an interactive, positive environment.
• Provide 1:1 academic help as needed.
• Plan and oversee enrichment activities for students.
• Build authentic relationships with students and YMCA staff.
• Ensure safety and wellbeing of children in handling emergencies and procedures.

Job DetailsJob Location: Davie Family YMCA - Mocksville, NC 27028Position Type: Part TimeSalary Range: $23.00 - $25.00 HourlyJob Shift: AfternoonThe Tutor is responsible for leading a group of up to 14 middle and high school children in an interactive positive incentive atmosphere at the Davie YMCA. The Tutor will also provide 1:1 academic help as needed. Candidate must be certified teacher in reading, math, ELA, and science. The ideal candidate must be flexible, reliable, and a good role model and will be responsible for the safety and well-being of the children. Enthusiastic personality with a love fore working with teens a plus! Schedule is Tuesday, Thursday 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on school days.

Essential job functions include:

• Tutoring will focus on targeted areas of student weakness identified by support circle.
• Tutors will assist in planning and oversight of enrichment activities for students.
• Builds effective, authentic relationships with students; helps them connect with academic material, each other and the YMCA.
• Engages students in standard based review, provides academic support, assessment and intervention.
• Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures and uniform policy.
• Ensures that the curriculum is followed, materials are organized and that all supplies are put away daily. Reports damaged equipment.
• Other responsibilities as needed.
