Job Title: CNC Turret Punch Press Operator (1st and 2nd Shift)

Job Description

This role operates CNC turret punch press machines to produce precision sheet metal components with tight tolerances. You will set up equipment, interpret blueprints, monitor production, and inspect parts to ensure they meet exact specifications in a clean, organized, and temperature-controlled manufacturing environment on the 1st or 2nd shift.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate CNC turret punch press machines to perform drilling, tapping, reaming, and other machining operations on sheet metal components.
• Load raw materials onto the machine and ensure proper alignment and secure clamping of workpieces before and during operation.
• Interpret and work from blueprint drawings and engineering specifications to determine machine settings and production requirements.
• Monitor machine operations continuously and make minor adjustments to maintain accuracy, productivity, and consistent part quality.
• Inspect finished parts using calipers and micrometers to verify dimensions, quality, and defects, maintaining tolerances of approximately ±0.0002.
• Apply knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) to ensure parts meet specified form, fit, and function requirements.
• Utilize XY coordination skills to accurately position and process workpieces on the turret punch press.
• Follow established production procedures, safety guidelines, and quality standards throughout all machining operations.
• Communicate clearly in English, both verbally and in writing, to document work, report issues, and collaborate with team members.
• Maintain a clean, organized work area and contribute to a safe, efficient, and well‑structured manufacturing environment.

Essential Skills

• 1–2+ years of experience setting up and operating machines, specifically with XY coordination on CNC or turret punch press equipment.
• Hands‑on experience operating turret punch press machines and performing basic machine setups.
• Ability to read, interpret, and work from blueprints or engineering drawings.
• Proficiency with calipers and micrometers for precision measurement and inspection.
• Ability to interpret GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) symbols and requirements.
• Experience in sheet metal fabrication and related machining processes.
• Ability to read, write, and speak English to follow instructions and document work accurately.
• High school diploma or GED.
• General machine operation experience, including CNC and punch press operation.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in military or aerospace manufacturing environments is a plus.
• Additional sheet metal fabrication experience beyond the minimum is a plus.
• Proficiency with calipers, micrometers, and other precision measuring tools.
• Strong blueprint reading skills with GD&T knowledge.
• Basic computer proficiency for machine interfaces, documentation, or production tracking.
• Experience with press brake or related metal forming equipment is beneficial.

Work Environment

The facility provides a temperature‑controlled, clean, and well‑organized manufacturing environment designed for comfort and efficiency. You will work Monday through Friday, on either the 1st (6A-230P) or 2nd shift (230P-11P), operating CNC turret punch press equipment and related machinery. The shop floor has slight noise due to running equipment, consistent with a modern metal fabrication and machining operation. You will use precision measurement tools such as calipers and micrometers, work with sheet metal fabrication equipment, and interact with CNC interfaces and computer systems to support production and quality control.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Rolling Meadows, IL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $30.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job‑related factors.
