AOC Metal Works in Chester, VA is seeking a Turret Operator to set up, operate, and maintain a turret punch press, following blueprints to accurately cut metal parts and perform on‑the‑spot quality checks.

You will work with engineering and production teams to improve tooling and programs, ensure safety protocols, meet production targets, and package finished products for shipment. Strong reading of blueprints, basic math, and reliability with overtime and occasional weekend shifts are required.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, adjust and prepare turret per blueprint specifications.
  • Operate turret punch press and perform first piece inspections.
  • Monitor tooling wear and report maintenance needs.
  • Ensure safety and housekeeping standards on the shop floor.
  • Assist with tooling improvements and lean activities.

Position Description Summary

The Turret Operator isresponsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining a turret punch press,following blueprints to precisely cut metal parts by utilizing the punch press function on the machine, performing quality checks, and ensuring production targets are met while adhering to safety protocols.

Principal Accountabilities

(The following is intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. It is not an exhaustive list of all expectations.)

  • Set-up, adjust and prepare turret according to blueprint specifications. Set-up includes but is not limited to: finding proper tooling per set up. Check the heights of tooling and adjust. Set-up and adjustment of material. Locate and upload proper program from machine control. Ensure optimal cutting conditions. Provide immediate feedback, to supervisor on jobs not meeting set-up and/or production standards.
  • Work with engineering and operations to ensure finished products are produced in the safest, effective manner, while maintaining high quality control standards.
  • De-burr parts with file or grinder, as needed.
  • Responsible for proper packaging, identifying and moving all finished products to the proper location.
  • Ensure all equipment, and area, is properly set-up in a safe manner and that all safety devices are in use. Performs set-up inspections, first piece inspections as well as all subsequent inspections as required by QC standards.
  • Monitor equipment and tool wear, and request external maintenance when required.
  • Perform weekly machine maintenance and repair as required.
  • Work with Supervisor, Programmer/Mfg. Engineer and Engineering to make constant improvements in tooling, programs and lean activities.
  • Assist with any other duties as assigned.
  • Assure adherence to all company policies and procedures.
  • Ensure a safe working environment through consistent practice of safety programs and procedures.
Education, Knowledge, Experience and Skills Required for Position
  • High school diploma or equivalent may be required
  • Basic reading, writing and arithmetic skills required
  • Basic computer skills
  • Must be able to read and understand blueprints, tape measure, calipers, and other shop drawing aids.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • Understand and support company policies and procedures; must have a safety-conscious attitude.
  • Close mental and visual attention required, coordinating manual dexterity with mental and visual attention for sustained periods of time.
  • Minimum of 1 year of manufacturing experience preferred
  • Flexibility with schedule is required (overtime and some weekends may be required)
Physical requirements
  • Ability to work safely and efficiently
  • Must be able to lift, carry, push, or pull 1-50 lbs frequently.
  • Must be able to squat, kneel, bend, stoop, twist, turn, grasp, and reach overhead and outward frequently.
  • Must be comfortable sitting, standing, and walking for 1-10 hours per day.
  • Must be comfortable working in a 55-85 degree Fahrenheit work environment.
  • Must be able to frequently lift and/or move items up to 50 pounds
