Job summary

ASK Consulting is seeking Tax Specialists for TurboTax support in a remote U.S. role. You will act as a customer-facing tax expert, reviewing returns, answering questions, and guiding clients through the filing experience.

Participation is seasonally flexible, with 20 hours per week minimum and 5:00 AM–9:00 PM Pacific availability seven days a week. PTIN for 2027 is required; 30/hr for non-credentialed, 40/hr for credentialed (CPA/EA/JD) on a W-2 basis.

Position Type: Seasonal / Flexible Part-Time

Program: Tax Support (TurboTax)

Non-Credential Candidate - $30/hour on a W-2 basis, with potential flexibility for a higher pay rate based on performance on the online skills assessment test score.

Credential Candidate (CPA / EA / JD) - $40/hour on a W-2 basis, with potential flexibility for a higher pay rate based on performance on the online skills assessment test score.

Valid PTIN for the 2027 filing year.

We are hiring Tax Specialist to support customers through the Tax tax-filing experience.

This is not a traditional high-volume tax preparation role. You will serve as a customer-facing tax expert, helping customers understand their tax situation, answering questions, reviewing returns prepared by other tax professionals, and ensuring customers receive an accurate and confident tax-filing experience.

You’ll work as part of a team that includes front-office tax associates, back-office preparers, and quality review professionals.

This role combines tax expertise + customer service + tax review.

What You’ll Do

• Serve as a primary customer contact throughout the tax engagement.
• Conduct welcome calls, proactive customer outreach, client review calls, and final customer communications.
• Review and validate tax returns prepared by another tax professional.
• Identify potential errors or missing information and provide clear Notes to Preparer for corrections.
• Review, approve, sign, and file returns when appropriate, including returns you did not personally prepare.
• Explain tax outcomes and recommendations to customers in clear, easy-to-understand language.
• Communicate with customers using video, audio, and digital communication tools.
• Assist customers with Tax product and software-related questions.
• Research tax questions using government resources, professional tax tools, and internal resources.
• Apply established tax procedures and best practices to resolve customer questions.
• Maintain accurate documentation of customer interactions.
• Work toward quality, efficiency, and customer satisfaction KPIs.
• Collaborate closely with preparers and quality-review teams to deliver a complete customer experience.

What We’re Looking For

• Minimum 2 seasons of paid tax preparation experience.
• At least 30 completed tax returns per season through preparation and/or review experience.
• Valid PTIN for the 2027 filing year.
• Strong understanding of federal tax concepts and tax laws.
• Familiarity with Form 1040 and associated schedules.
• Understanding of:
• Filing Status
• Child Tax Credit
• Multi-State Taxes
• Wage Income
• Comfortable reviewing and signing tax returns prepared by another tax professional.
• Strong written communication skills, particularly the ability to create clear and actionable handoff notes.
• Strong customer service and relationship‑building skills.
• Ability to explain tax information to customers in a simple and professional manner.
• Strong research and problem‑solving skills.
• Comfortable using virtual/audio communication technology.
• Ability to work effectively in a team‑based environment.
• College degree preferred, particularly in Accounting, Finance, Business, or Taxation.

Important: Scheduling Requirements

This program provides schedule flexibility, but it is not an \"work whenever you want\" opportunity.

Tax operates 7 days a week, from 5:00 AM to 9:00 PM Pacific Time.

• Be available to work any day of the week, Monday through Sunday.
• Commit to approximately 20 hours per week minimum.
• Create and maintain a consistent work schedule.
• Be able to work weekdays and weekends as part of their availability.
• Understand that weekend-only availability is not acceptable.
• Candidates with another full-time job may schedule their Tax hours around their existing work schedule, provided they can meet the program's availability and hour requirements.

Weekly Hour Guidelines

• Minimum: Approximately 20 hours/week
• Typical maximum: Approximately 35 hours/week
• Typical daily maximum: Approximately 7 hours/day
• Hours are managed through the client's scheduling system.

Work Location

• 100% Remote
• Candidates must reside and work within the United States.
• U.S.-based candidates can be considered across the country.
