Job summary

Fluidstack is seeking an experienced turbomachinery specialist to lead aerodynamic design of centrifugal compressors and define machine architecture for high-speed, high-load applications. You will design expansion turbines, collaborate on rotordynamics integration, and guide the product from concept to testing.

You will work on a fast-moving Thermofluids R&D team in Austin, TX, with intent to push frontier compute infrastructure and energy efficiency, while iterating from CFD to real-world

Qualifications

• Experience designing radial or axial turbomachines that were built and tested.
• Ability to take a stage from mean-line through CFD and verify CFD reliability.
• Experience solving rotordynamics problems with real shafts and bearings.
• Made architecture calls with incomplete data and iterated through build and test.
• Can read test maps and adapt designs accordingly.
• Worked in fast-moving environments with aggressive timelines.
• Bonus: turbopumps, gas turbines, cryogenic turbomachinery knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Own aerodynamic design of centrifugal compressor from mean-line to released impeller and geometry.
• Set machine architecture including stage count, shaft speed and diameter.
• Design expansion turbine to recover shaft work and integrate with motor.
• Collaborate with structural and mechanical engineers on rotordynamics and stresses.
• Take machine to test stand and close loop from map back into design.
