Job summary

Jobtailor seeks an experienced turbomachinery design engineer to own the aerodynamics from mean-line design through CFD to hardware release. You will define machine architecture, including stage count and shaft speed, and design a high-efficiency expansion turbine for shaft power recovery.

Qualifications

• Designed a radial or axial turbomachine that was built and ran.
• Experience taking a stage from mean-line through CFD and back.
• Understanding CFD limitations and conditions under which CFD may be inaccurate.
• Worked a rotordynamics problem through resolution on a real shaft with real bearings.
• Made early architecture decisions with incomplete data, including stage count, speed, or bearing type.
• Experience using test maps to change the design.
• Experience working in rapid hardware development environments.

Responsibilities

• Own aerodynamic design of the centrifugal compressor from mean-line and 1D analysis through CFD to released impeller, diffuser, and return-channel geometry.
• Set machine architecture, including stage count, shaft speed, and diameter.
• Design the expansion turbine that recovers shaft work from the high-side pressure drop.
• Integrate the compressor, turbine, and motor on a shared shaft.
• Carry the rotor through rotordynamics, magnetic bearing integration, and stress analysis with structural and mechanical engineers.
• Take the machine onto the test stand.
• Close the loop from measured performance maps back into aerodynamic design.
• Develop thermofluids solutions for large-scale AI data-center cooling infrastructure.
