We are seeking an experienced Tunneling Project Manager to lead the successful delivery of complex underground construction projects from pre-construction through completion. The role will involve managing project scope, programme, budget, quality, safety, and environmental performance while coordinating multidisciplinary teams and maintaining strong relationships with clients, consultants, contractors, suppliers, and regulatory authorities. You will provide clear direction across all project phases and ensure that tunneling works are delivered safely, efficiently, and in accordance with contractual and technical requirements.
Your responsibilities will include developing and maintaining detailed project plans, managing procurement and subcontractor activities, monitoring progress, controlling costs, and identifying and mitigating commercial, technical, and operational risks. You will oversee construction methodologies, temporary works, ground conditions, tunnel boring or conventional excavation activities, ventilation, dewatering, lining, support systems, and associated infrastructure. The position will also require regular review of design information, method statements, inspection and test plans, change control, claims, and project reporting. You will lead progress meetings, resolve interface issues, support technical decision-making, and ensure that accurate records and documentation are maintained throughout the project lifecycle.
Applicants should have significant experience managing tunneling or major underground infrastructure projects, ideally gained in a senior site or project management capacity. A degree or equivalent qualification in civil engineering, construction management, or a related discipline is preferred, together with strong knowledge of tunneling techniques, geotechnical principles, construction contracts, project controls, and health and safety legislation. Professional accreditation is advantageous. You will need excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to manage competing priorities in a demanding construction environment. A proactive approach, commercial awareness, and a strong commitment to safe, high-quality delivery are essential.
