Job summary

Bland Landscaping Company, Inc. is seeking an Equipment Mechanic to troubleshoot, repair, and perform preventative maintenance on a diverse fleet from handheld blowers to heavy skid steers.

The role aims to minimize downtime and maximize equipment uptime for field crews. The ideal candidate has a High School Diploma or GED and at least 3 years of professional experience in small engine and heavy equipment repair, with a valid NC Driver’s License (CDL preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues and perform quick, effective repairs.
  • Service engines (2-cycle and 4-cycle) on handheld tools and large equipment.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and routine inspections to ensure peak performance.
  • Perform off-site field repairs to keep crews productive in the field.
  • Manage parts pickup from local vendors and keep the shop/yard organized.
  • Maintain accurate service records and ensure parts are processed through the inventory system.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and company safety policies.
  • Assist with seasonal transitions (e.g., snow removal prep, landscaping projects).

Job Summary

The Equipment Mechanic is responsible for the comprehensive troubleshooting, repair, and preventative maintenance of a diverse fleet of landscaping and construction machinery. Your primary goal is to minimize downtime and ensure all equipment—from handheld blowers to heavy skid steers—operates at peak efficiency.

Technical Maintenance & Repair
  • Troubleshooting: Accurately diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues to execute quick, effective repairs.
  • Engine Service: Maintain and repair 2-cycle and 4-cycle engines across a variety of platforms, including:
    • Handhelds: Blowers, weed eaters, and chainsaws.
    • Large Machinery: Zero-turn mowers, tractors, and skid steers.
  • Preventative Care: Perform routine maintenance such as oil changes, filter replacements, and belt adjustments.
  • Safety Inspections: Rigorously inspect all equipment safety devices to ensure 100% compliance with operational standards.
Field & Shop Operations
  • Mobile Support: Perform off-site repairs as needed to keep crews operational in the field.
  • Logistics: Manage the pickup of parts from local vendors and maintain a well-organized shop and yard environment.
  • Inventory Control: Assist in maintaining accurate service records and ensure all parts are processed through the company’s inventory system.
Collaboration & Safety
  • Communication: Coordinate with internal managers to prioritize repairs based on crew needs and seasonal demands.
  • Compliance: Ensure all equipment and shop practices strictly adhere to OSHA regulations and company safety policies.
  • Support: Assist the company in seasonal service transitions (e.g., snow removal prep or specialty landscaping projects).
Candidate Requirements
  • Experience: High School Diploma or GED required; minimum of 3 years of professional experience in small engine and heavy equipment repair.
  • Licensing: Must possess a valid NC Driver’s License with a clean driving record (CDL preferred).
  • Technical Skills: Proven ability to work independently on a wide range of landscaping and construction equipment.
  • Soft Skills: Strong communication skills and the ability to motivate team members and maintain positive internal relationships.
  • Safety Mindset: Strict adherence to chemical safety protocols, PPE usage, and company uniform policies.
