Training program: All newly hired Speech-Language Pathologists, including Clinical Fellows, participate in a structured onboarding and training program designed to ensure a smooth transition into clinical practice at Empower Speech Therapy.
During the first several weeks, new hires receive training on our electronic medical record, documentation standards, clinic policies, scheduling workflows, and day-to-day clinic operations. Clinical training includes our evidence-based approaches to pediatric speech, language, motor speech, and feeding therapy, as well as our family-centered model of care and expectations for caregiver coaching and collaboration.
New clinicians begin with a gradually increasing caseload while receiving regular mentorship, case consultation, and opportunities to observe and discuss clinical decision-making. Documentation is reviewed, questions are encouraged, and ongoing feedback is provided to support professional growth and consistency in clinical care.
Experienced Speech-Language Pathologists are typically prepared to manage an independent caseload within approximately 2-4 weeks, depending on prior experience and demonstrated competency. Clinical Fellows follow a more structured mentorship plan that meets all ASHA and Oregon supervision requirements. Their caseload is increased gradually over the first several months, with regular direct supervision, case reviews, and performance feedback throughout the fellowship. Most Clinical Fellows are managing a largely independent caseload within 8-12 weeks while continuing to receive mentorship and supervision for the remainder of their Clinical Fellowship.
Our goal is to provide every new clinician with the training, resources, and support needed to develop confidence, deliver high-quality evidence-based care, and thrive as a member of our team.
