Job summary

D2 Consulting is seeking a VMware Engineer to design, implement, and sustain secure ESXi environments in support of a mission-critical national security program. This role requires hands-on virtualization expertise and the ability to operate in a highly secure, classified setting.

You’ll architect and maintain VMware components (ESXi 6.7/7.0/8.0, vSphere, vRA, vROps, NSX/NSX-T), troubleshoot Windows and Linux, develop SOPs, and support Certification & Accreditation while mentoring junior

Qualifications

• 5+ years of systems engineering experience, focused on VMware technologies.
• Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience)
• Active TS/SCI clearance
• Hands-on expertise with: VMware ESXi 6.7/7.0/8.0
• VMware Aria Operations and Automation (8.x)
• VMware NSX/NSX-T
• Microsoft Windows Server 2016/2019/2022
• Windows 10/11 and Unix/Linux systems
• Strong knowledge of networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, DNS, LAN, Active Directory, GPO
• Ability to support and troubleshoot both Windows and Linux virtual environments
• Experience working within highly secure, classified environments
• Ability to author and maintain clear, technical documentation

Responsibilities

• Design and architect VMware environments.
• Install, configure, and manage key VMware components: vSphere.
• Manage ESXi 6.7/7.0/8.0.
• Handle VMware Aria Automation (vRA).
• Handle VMware Aria Operations (vROps).
• Manage NSX-NSX-T.
• Troubleshoot, patch, monitor, and provide hardware support.
• Develop and maintain SOPs for virtual environments.
• Support Certification & Accreditation (C&A) processes.
• Respond to technical support requests and provide Tier II/III troubleshooting for Windows and Linux.
• Participate in off-hours maintenance and on-call support.
• Translate requirements into reliable solutions with engineering/customer liaison.
• Lead or mentor engineers and serve as technical lead for tasks/projects.
