Job summary

OpenRouter is hiring a Software Engineer on the Trust & Safety team to own detection, enforcement, and review systems that keep abuse, fraud, and illegal content off the platform. You will build systems that detect abuse and fraud, create heuristics for automated action, and support reviewers with tooling and guardrails.

This hands-on IC role spans inference path, payments path, internal review tooling, and the data platform, with direct impact on real users and enterprise trust.

Qualifications

• 4+ years building and operating production systems.
• Proficient in React, TypeScript, Next.js, and JS runtimes.
• Ability to write SQL against large event datasets and reason about base rates, precision and recall.
• Sound judgment when working with incomplete evidence.
• High agency and bias toward action; spotting problems, iterating, and shipping without waiting for tickets.
• AI-forward in your workflow, using coding agents often, automating your work, and strong opinions about what works.

Responsibilities

• Build and operate systems across signup, payments, and usage to detect abuse and fraud early.
• Own the end-to-end enforcement pipeline from detection to restrictions.
• Build internal tools for investigations, case queues, bulk review, and alerting mechanisms.
• Ship content safety solutions on the inference path and KYC systems to detect and stop fraud and abuse.
• Develop monitoring for risk, abuse spikes, and false positives.
• Set the technical direction for preventing abuse as the platform scales.
• Collaborate with data scientists on risk ML model training.
• Analyze incidents in data to size patterns and distinguish real abuse from false positives.
