Job summary

Jobot in Irvine, CA seeks an experienced attorney in trust and estate administration to counsel trustees and guide complex distributions.

You will prepare trust documents, gather and value assets, and oversee probate filings, working with paralegals and clients.

Qualifications

• J.D. from an accredited law school; CA Bar in good standing.
• Minimum 3 years of experience as attorney in trust and estate administration.
• LLM in Taxation strongly preferred.
• Ability to write clearly with legal analyses.
• Excellent organization, computer skills, and math skills.

Responsibilities

• Counsel trustees through all phases of the trust administration process.
• Prepare trust administration documents, including distributions and funding of sub-trusts.
• Gather, inventory, identify, and value trust and estate assets.
• Prepare and/or review trust accountings, estate tax returns, and gift tax returns.
• Draft and file court documents (probates, 850 petitions, 17200 petitions).
• Oversee court matters from filing to signed court orders.
• Conduct legal research and analysis to support trust and estate matters.
• Collaborate with paralegals, legal assistants, and attorneys for case management.
• Communicate directly with clients and advisors.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Counsel trustees through all phases of the trust administration process
• Prepare trust administration documents, including documents related to the distribution and allocation of assets among beneficiaries and funding of sub-trusts
• Gather, inventory, identify, and value trust and estate assets
• Prepare and/or review trust accountings, estate tax returns, and gift tax returns
• Draft and file court documents (such as probates, 850 petitions, and 17200 petitions)
• Oversee court matters from the filing of a petition through receipt of signed court orders
• Conduct legal research and analysis as necessary to support trust and estate matters
• Collaborate with paralegals, legal assistants, and other attorneys to ensure efficient case management
• Communicate directly with clients and advisors

Requirements

• J.D. from an accredited law school; a member in good standing of the California Bar
• Minimum 3 years of experience working as an attorney in trust and estate administration
• Completed LLM in Taxation is strongly preferred
• Ability to write in a clear, logical, and grammatically correct manner, integrating legal analyses into work
• Excellent organization, computer skills, and math skills
• Ability to analyze facts and discovery to apply to statutes and case law on point
• Ability to verbally present case facts, legal analyses, and recommendations
• Ability to work independently or with a team
