Job description

A law firm based in New York City is in search of an Associate Attorney with a focused background in estate planning and wealth preservation. This role is designed for a motivated legal professional with 3 to 5 years of relevant experience, who is ready to take on high-level responsibilities in a collaborative, client-centric environment. The selected candidate will work closely with individuals, families, and fiduciaries to deliver customized legal strategies aimed at protecting legacies and optimizing the transfer of wealth.

Key Responsibilities
  • Craft and implement tailored estate plans including the preparation of wills, revocable and irrevocable trusts, and powers of attorney.

  • Analyze each client’s personal and financial landscape to deliver individualized planning strategies.

  • Advise clients on wealth preservation, succession planning, and tax implications related to estate transfers.

  • Handle all aspects of trust and estate administration, including filings, accountings, and interfacing with courts, beneficiaries, and other professionals.

  • Draft sophisticated estate planning documents and oversee document execution per legal formalities.

  • Monitor and interpret changes in estate and gift tax laws to ensure compliance and proactive planning.

  • Collaborate with partners and other attorneys across practice areas to provide comprehensive client service.

  • Maintain confidential client relationships with professionalism and empathy.

Ideal Candidate Profile
  • Possesses 3–5 years of hands-on experience in estate planning or trust and estate law.

  • Licensed to practice law in the State of New York and be in good standing.

  • Demonstrates a deep understanding of federal and state tax rules affecting estate planning.

  • Comfortable managing complex legal matters with precision and discretion.

  • Adept at managing a range of client personalities and needs with a polished, service-oriented approach.

Educational Background
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited U.S. law school.

  • Bachelor’s degree completed before law school.

  • Additional coursework or certifications in tax law or estate planning are a plus, though not required.

Core Skills & Attributes
  • Exceptional legal drafting and analytical abilities.

  • Strong organizational skills with a proven ability to manage multiple client matters simultaneously.

  • Excellent interpersonal communication and client management capabilities.

  • Familiarity with trust and estate administration procedures in New York.
