Job summary

Nelson Truss Inc in Edgerton, WI is hiring a Truss Assembler for our first shift, Monday through Friday, 6:00am–2:30pm (6:00am–3:30pm in peak season). The role involves assembling metal plated wood trusses using jig systems and lifting lumber.

You will read engineered drawings, handle lumber, and operate tools and a forklift. We value teamwork, reliability, and a willingness to learn in a family-owned manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

  • Basic carpentry knowledge required.
  • Ability to read and follow engineered drawings.
  • Understanding of lumber sizes, grades, and types.
  • Ability to use common trade tools.
  • Basic arithmetic and calculator use.
  • Teamwork in a manufacturing setting.
  • Forklift experience is beneficial but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the construction and assembly of metal plated wood trusses using jig systems.
  • Lift and handle dimensional lumber of varying sizes and lengths.
  • Climb onto jig systems to arrange material properly.
  • Retrieve metal connector plates per shop drawings and place in proper locations for building trusses.
  • Operate forklift to move lumber carts and materials.
  • Mark trusses with tag numbers.
  • Use metal strap banders to tie truss batches together.
  • Re-stock plates, lumber carts, pallets, etc.
  • Perform general area clean-up duties.

Nelson Truss Inc is seeking to hire a Truss Assembler to work in our Edgerton Truss plant. This is a first shift position, Monday through Friday from 6:00am – 2:30pm (6:00am - 3:30pm during our busy season).

Job duties include:
  • Assist in the construction and assembly of metal plated wood trusses using jig systems such as rolling gantry table and hand press systems.
  • Lift and handle dimensional lumber of varying sizes and lengths.
  • Climb on to jig systems to arrange material properly.
  • Retrieve metal connector plates per shop drawings and place in proper locations for building trusses.
  • Operate forklift to move lumber carts, trash, etc.
  • Mark trusses with tag numbers.
  • Use metal strap banders to tie truss batches together.
  • Re-stock plates, lumber carts, pallets, etc.
  • Perform general area clean-up duties.
Qualifications:
  • A qualified applicant will have basic carpentry knowledge
  • Ability to read and follow engineered drawings
  • Basic understanding of lumber sizes/grades/types
  • Ability to use trade tools (such as saws, hammers, squares, tape measures, etc.)
  • Basic understanding and use of arithmetic along with ability to use a calculator
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Forklift experience is beneficial, but not required
Physical Requirements:
  • Applicants must be able to lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
