Job Description
Position Details:
  1. Component Pay: Minimum Guarantee of $32.00 Hourly. Upwards potential of $43.00 Hourly.
  2. Schedule/Hours: Monday - Friday/ 1st shift. Start time around 3am-430am. Start and end times vary, 10-12hr shifts
  3. $5,000 Sign-on Bonus!

Position Purpose:

Food and food service delivery drivers fulfill a critical role in the country's food supply chain. Our delivery drivers not only make sure the customers' products arrive at their destination at the arranged times and in good condition but are also the face of our company—building lasting relationships with our customers!

The Driver Trainee is an entry-level driver training role. Associates in this role will learn and/or gain experience in hauling freight and operating tractor trailers while assisting designated driver trainers with their deliveries and routes. They will communicate and interact with customers, vendors, and co-workers professionally, ensuring questions are answered accurately and promptly. The role involves functioning as a team member within the department and organization and performing any duties assigned to best serve the company.

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
  1. Successfully complete Entry Level Driver Trainee or Dock to Driver Training Program as required.
  2. Ride with and assist driver trainer in executing deliveries as required.
  3. Perform all required safety checks (pre/post trip), including inspections of tractor/truck and trailer according to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations; inspect tractor/truck and trailer to ensure they meet safety standards and take appropriate action as needed.
  4. Report all safety issues and/or repairs required.
  5. Follow all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies.
  6. Immediately report all safety hazards. Inspect trailer for properly loaded and secured freight.
  7. Perform count checks of items and verify customer invoices for loaded products. Complete all required freight paperwork accurately and legibly.
  8. Move tractor to the loading dock and attach preloaded trailer as needed.
  9. Drive to and deliver customer orders according to the predetermined route schedule.
  10. Unload products from the trailer and transport items into designated customer storage areas.
  11. Perform damage control checks, scan, and contact supervisor about removing orders per company policy.
  12. Verify delivery of items with the customer and obtain signatures.
  13. Collect money (cash or checks) where required.
  14. Load customer returns onto trailer and secure trailer doors.
  15. Unload damaged goods and customer returns, and complete necessary paperwork at driver check-in.
  16. Unload all equipment and materials and remove trash from trailers as required.
  17. Complete daily records of hours of service and log in accordance with Federal DOT, state, and company requirements.
  18. Perform general housekeeping duties in tractor, loading dock area, and keep trailers clean.
  19. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Internal Candidates: 1 year of service in good standing as outlined in the PFG Entry Level Driver Trainee or Dock to Driver Training Program, able to attain CDL Permit and DOT Health Card.

0-12 months CDL A Commercial Driving experience.

High school diploma/GED or state-approved equivalent.

Valid CDL A.

Meet all State licensing and/or certification requirements (where applicable).

Must be 21 years of age.

Clean Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) for past 3 years.

Pass post-offer drug test and criminal background check.

Pass road test.

Valid current DOT Health Card and/or able to secure a new DOT Health Card.

Able to hand-lift and utilize two-wheeler, lift gate, and/or other equipment to move and/or stack product cases/freight of varying size and weight throughout shift; product generally ranges from 10-35 pounds and up to 60-90 pounds depending on the location.

Preferred Qualifications

Foodservice distribution industry experience.

Onboard computer and electronic log system experience (e.g., PeopleNet).

Hand-held point of delivery scanning system experience (e.g., POD).

Customer service-related work experience.
