Job description

The Class A CDL Driver reports to the Facilities & Operations Supervisor, Dispatcher, or the Terminal Operations Supervisor. The Driver is responsible for operating a tractor trailer with a minimum of 26,000 GVW to transport equipment and materials to various locations, complying with company health, safety, environmental standards, and DOT regulations. Duties include operating loading and unloading equipment such as pallet jacks, hand trucks, hydraulic lifts, or wheel loaders. The Driver should possess knowledge of routing equipment, wet systems, policies, procedures, and vehicle operation regulations.

This position operates under flexible parameters, aiming for excellence in safety, quality, and efficiency to reduce accidents and errors while increasing profits.

Essential Functions

Environmental and Health & Safety (H&S)

• Adhere strictly to all Metals Recycling Business health, safety, and environmental standards.
• Maintain a safe environment for employees, customers, and visitors.

Operational Performance & Best Business Practices

• Move freight and materials using trucks, tractors, or manual handling.
• Position trucks for loading/unloading, following signals and safety checks.
• Secure materials for transport.
• Follow dispatch instructions for deliveries and receipts.
• Perform vehicle inspections before and after trips.
• Maintain logs of hours, vehicle status, and repairs, complying with regulations.
• Collect receipts and verify documentation accuracy.
• Assist as needed within the yard.

Equipment & Maintenance

• Carry tools and supplies, report vehicle issues.

Internal Control Responsibilities

Support internal control processes by understanding, communicating, and complying with policies, and suggesting improvements.

Report operational problems, policy violations, or illegal actions.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This role does not include supervisory duties.

Interpersonal Contacts

Regular contact with supervisors, dispatchers, and operations staff, requiring face-to-face and radio communication.

Job Conditions

Exposure to weather, noise, fumes, and dirt. Use of PPE required. No travel needed. Work may be unpredictable, with extra hours during peak times, including weekends and holidays.

Physical Activities

Constant sitting; frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching; occasional climbing; lifting up to 50 pounds; manual dexterity and visual acuity required.

Qualifications

• Valid Class A or B CDL
• Valid Medical Card
• 24 months of recent verifiable driving experience
• Limited violations and accidents
• Registration in FMCSA Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse
• Ability to operate automated systems
• Clean PSP report emphasizing violations and crashes
