Job summary

Central Union Mission in Washington, DC seeks a dedicated professional to manage regular donation pickups and support operations. The role requires driving a commercial box-truck in city and highway traffic and building donor relationships.

Job description

REPORTS TO: Manager of Community Donations and Drivers


LOCATION: Washington, DC


SUMMARY: A motivated, skilled professional to provide regular donation pickups supporting the operations of Central Union Mission. The candidate should have employment experience driving a commercial truck in both city and highway traffic, as well as experience managing relationships with donors.


Major Responsibilities:

90% Donation Pick-Ups and Delivery


  • Safely operate a commercial box-truck with a liftgate in both city and highway traffic conditions

  • Pick up large donations of food daily from various suppliers on a scheduled basis from local and regional sites.

  • Build positive and productive relationships with partners who donate regularly.

  • Load and unload food from trucks.

  • Ensure donation receipts are completed legibly and documented properly when receiving donations.

  • Ensure proper food handling and storage.

  • Perform and record a daily pre- and post- inspection of truck.

  • Knowledgeable of Family Ministry programs to better assist both staff and participants.

  • Weekly deliveries to other Mission ministry locations in DC area

  • Assist with special events and support other departments, when needed.

Requirements


  • At least five years of experience serving as a professional truck driver

  • High School Diploma/GED, required.

  • Authorized to legally work in the United States

  • Required ServSafe and other food handling training (training can be provided upon hire)

  • CDL preferred, but not required.

  • Experience driving in city and highway traffic.

  • Able to read a map and use GPS technology.

  • Able to lift, pull or push 25 lbs. when necessary.

  • Be reliable, flexible and dependable.

  • Employ adequate verbal and written communication skills.

  • Exercise good math and writing skills.

  • Ability to delegate and organize.

  • Work as a team player assisting co-workers, volunteers and program participants.

  • Enjoys working with the public.

  • Demonstrate Christ-like attitude at all times.

  • Committed Christian and active member of a church. Agreement with Mission’s Statement of Faith required.
