Job summary

Churches United is seeking a Food Pantry Assistant & Box Truck Driver to support multiple pantry locations. You will assist customers and volunteers, handle deliveries, and help with stocking and inventory and safety procedures.

The role requires driving a box truck, basic forklift/pallet jack experience, and a high school diploma or GED. Physical effort is needed to lift up to 30 pounds, with attention to detail and safe work practices integral to daily duties.

Qualifications

  • Box truck driving experience required.
  • Forklift and Pallet Jack experience preferred.
  • High School diploma/GED required.
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision.
  • Capacity to take direction and work independently.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Physically capable of lifting and moving up to 30 pounds as necessary.
  • Maintain current licensing and follow all food safety requirements.
  • Maintain current Driver’s License and show proof of valid vehicle insurance to be insured by CU.

Responsibilities

  • Assist customers and volunteers during pantry distribution hours when available.
  • Complete safety training and guidelines for forklift and pallet jack safety.
  • Pick up and unload deliveries from Retail Rescue, North Country Food and other deliveries.
  • Sort and stock food items focusing on freezer, cooler, bread and pastry areas for freshest products.
  • Review food supplies on shelves and backfill according to inventory schedule.
  • Drive box truck following safety protocols and pick up donations for Churches United and the Food Pantry.
  • Ensure safety of staff, volunteers, and community members; follow safety practices.
  • Open, prepare, close and secure the pantry with current shifts.
  • Perform light exterior yard work and routine exterior upkeep as needed.
  • Clean building through sweeping, mopping, scrubbing or vacuuming; manage waste disposal.
  • Handle emergency upkeep requests and coordinate maintenance.

Summary

The Food Pantry Assistant & Box Truck Driver handles multiple food pantry duties at multiple locations (when needed) as outlined under the job responsibilities.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with customers and volunteers during pantry food distribution hours when available
  • Complete safety training and guidelines to maintain Forklift and Pallet Jack safety.
  • Pick up and unload deliveries – Retail Rescue, North Country Food and all other deliveries
  • Separate inventory according to like product items
  • Complete inventory control
  • Use computer software and follow all documentation processes appropriately
  • Sort and stock food items, focusing on the freezer, cooler, bread and pastry areas with the objective of using the freshest products when possible
  • Review food supplies on the shelves and backfill according to inventory schedule
  • Daily sorting, stocking, and cleaning ensuring compliance with policies and procedures
  • Drive box truck following all safety protocols, pick up donations and items relevant to Churches United and the Food Pantry
  • Ensure safety of staff and volunteers and community members by making sure that safety practices are followed and maintained.
  • Complete any light exterior yard work, routine upkeep of exterior areas and parking lot as needed
  • Clean building by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming all areas
  • Remove garbage around exterior of building and prepare bins for pickup
  • Handle emergency upkeep requests, contact maintenance when necessary
  • Follow procedures for use of cleaning chemicals and power equipment to prevent damage and injury
  • Open, prepare, close and secure the pantry as appropriate with current assigned shifts
  • Other duties as requested or needed
Additional Skills
  • Box truck driving experience required
  • Forklift and Pallet Jack experience preferred
  • High School diploma/GED required
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision
  • Capacity to take direction and work independently
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to follow directions for various community pick up’s with box truck
  • Physically capable of lifting and moving up to 30 pounds as necessary
  • Maintain current licensing and follow all food safety requirements
  • Maintain current Driver’s License and show proof of valid vehicle insurance to be insured by CU
Successful Candidates
  • Excellent customer service, communication, organizational, and time-management skills
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to individual struggles with homelessness, poverty, substance abuse, mental illness, and criminal records
  • Knowledge of harm reduction, strength-based, and behavior-based models
  • Preferred – applicable experience preferably in social service setting with people in crisis
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products
