Job description

Position Overview

Delivery Drivers serve as a frontline position within DC Central Kitchen, handling deliveries and pickups for schools, farm-to-kitchen programs, partner agencies, and catering or contract venues. Drivers maintain vehicles, complete necessary paperwork, and ensure food is delivered at appropriate temperatures.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Deliver prepared food and pick up food and other donations in accordance with assigned routes and client agreements.
  • Provide receipts to clients or DCCK as required.
  • Arrive at specified stops on time according to route sheets and action memos.
  • Complete any extra pickups and deliveries as assigned by DCCK supervisors.
  • Complete donor receipts (for food and non‑food) at every donation location.
  • Complete route sheets with times, mileage, and driver identification information.
  • Prepare a daily vehicle maintenance report before leaving the premises.
  • Maintain temperature log of foods received and delivered.
  • Obtain food for assigned deliveries from designated DCCK locations.
  • Verify deliveries or pickups are complete using action memos or delivery slips.
  • Load food for deliveries into the assigned vehicle and unload at the designated agency location.
  • Ensure food and non‑food items are safely loaded onto the vehicle.
  • Unload products from the driver’s own truck at DC Central Kitchen facilities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Transportation or Transportation Manager.
  • Pick up food and other donations as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must complete a criminal background check, pre‑employment drug screen, and TB test.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds, walk, stand, bend for long periods; moderate physical activity required.
  • Work safely in environments with extreme temperatures, fumes, dirt, smoke, loud noise, and varied odors.
  • Work safely in extreme weather and temperatures.
  • Extreme flexibility required for varying shifts; on‑call may be required.
  • Desire to be part of a large nonprofit with the mission to combat hunger and create opportunity.
  • High School Diploma, GED, and 4‑6 years of combined education/work experience.
  • 1 year of commercial driving/transit experience.
  • Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
  • Comfortable driving non‑CDL trucks up to 22 feet in length; experience with air brakes required.
  • Good sense of direction and understanding of the roadways in the greater DC Metropolitan Area.
  • Positive attitude in a fast‑paced, ever‑changing work environment.
  • Willingness to learn, flexibility, teamwork, and ability to work as a member of a team.
  • Have or be able to obtain Serve Safe certification.
  • Maintain commitment to an alcohol and drug free workplace.
  • Position is “Safety Sensitive”; subject to random drug/alcohol testing.
  • Must have or be willing to obtain DOT license.
Physical Demands

Individual must be able to lift 50 pounds, walk, stand, and bend for long periods; moderate physical activity required. Constant climbing in and out of large vehicles and onto cargo areas of large trucks is required. Must handle stress and perform duties efficiently and courteously, tactfully, responsibly, and timely.
