Job summary

Uog in Guam is seeking a full-time TRIO Student Support Services Academic Advisor to provide academic support, including tutoring and mentoring for students. This role requires a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Sciences, or a related field, along with the ability to work with diverse students.

TRIO Student Support Services Academic Advisor

Job Description Summary

Under the direct supervision of the TRIO SSS Director, the TRIO SSS Academic Advisor’s primary duty is to provide academic support services including tutoring, advising, and mentoring for participants. The Advisor serves as a role model and assists participants in building the skills required to survive college. Responsibilities also include:

  • Assisting project staff in scheduling, preparation, implementation, and coordination of program activities such as student recruitment, academic support services, student success workshops, and field trips.
  • Documenting, preparing, and maintaining accurate records of services provided, including tutorial session and activity reports.
  • Assisting in preparation of project reports, grant proposals, informational and recruitment materials, and other office documents.
  • Assisting administrative staff with filing, database entry, and other related clerical duties.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by the Program Director.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from a U.S. accredited college or university in Mathematics, Sciences, or related field.
  • Completed college-level mathematics through calculus (including coursework such as Precalculus, Calculus I/II, or equivalent).
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Necessary Special Qualifications

  • Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least one (1) year experience working with students from diverse cultural/ disadvantaged backgrounds, preferably with TRIO Programs or similar projects.
  • Ability and interest in working with first generation, low-income, and students with disability who need academic assistance and motivation.
  • Knowledge and experience in overcoming barriers similar to program participants or alumni/nae of any TRIO Programs.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to tutor participants in college‑level Mathematics and Sciences.
  • Ability to meet the program’s scheduled activities, including summer program.

Employment Type

Full time; Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Salary commensurate with UGPP/h-01 to UGPP/h-05 ($32,355.00 – $37,545.00 per annum).
