Job description

Title: Trimmer/Climber Trainee

Type: Full-Time/Non-Exempt

Reports to: Foreperson/General Foreperson

Essential Functions:

• Trims and/or removes trees by climbing with the aid of a ladder, safety belt, climbing line, powered trimmer lift truck, or works from the ground using saws/pruners. Cuts branches or trunk sections and drops or lowers them to the ground with lines.
• Uses appropriate tools to fell trees or trimmed trunks and split them into manageable pieces.
• Sprays stumps and brush with hand-spraying equipment to prevent further growth.
• Loads and unloads trucks with logs, stumps, brush, and debris and/or feeds brush into a wood chipper.
• Repairs minor damage to lawns, fences, and walks caused by tree trimming.
• Relays hand-signals, directs traffic, operates trucks and equipment as assigned, and keeps work area clear and organized.
• Trains new employees on proper procedures.
• Ensures safety by safeguarding employees and the public from hazards, cooperating with authorities, and setting up barriers and warning signs. Trained in tree and bucket rescue.
• Inspects and maintains tools, trucks, and equipment, requesting repairs when necessary.
• Works around hazardous equipment and near energized power lines.
• Operates in noisy environments, wearing proper PPE.
• Exposed to various weather conditions and nature-related hazards.
• Assists in enforcing safety practices within the crew.
• Services and maintains trucks and equipment, reporting maintenance needs.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

• At least 3 months of experience in tree trimming or clearing crews, or successful completion of performance reviews.
• Ability to wear PPE and work in various weather conditions.
• Ability to read, write, and understand job instructions.
• Effective communication skills and professional representation of Wright Tree Service.
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds infrequently and 30 pounds frequently.
• Willingness to work long hours, overtime, and emergency call-outs.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to pass drug testing.
• Herbicide applicator or operator certification/license as required.
• Valid First-Aid and CPR certifications.
• Must pass a Climber Trainee Performance Review.
