Job summary

Caltrans in Humboldt County is seeking a Tree Maintenance Worker to perform highway tree maintenance tasks under supervision. The role requires operating equipment with a Class C license and climbing trees over 40 feet as needed.

Qualifications

  • One year of tree trimming experience including trimming of trees more than 40 feet in height and climbing work.

Responsibilities

  • Operate equipment requiring a Class C driver's license used by the assigned unit as part of highway tree maintenance work.
  • Work individually or with a crew to perform tasks related to highway tree maintenance.
  • Follow supervisor directions and safety protocols while performing duties.

Job Description And Duties

Working under the supervision of a Caltrans Maintenance Supervisor, the incumbent operates equipment requiring a Class C driver's license used by assigned unit, and works individually or with a crew performing tasks related to highway tree maintenance work.

Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the Caltrans Tree Maintenance Worker exam. For those who do not have current eligibility (e.g., transfer, permissive reinstatement, or voluntary demotions) and/or who will be new to state civil services employment, you must be on the state examination list to be eligible for these positions.

Special Requirements
  • The position(s) require(s) a valid California Drivers License (CDL). You must answer the questions addressing your CDL on your application. Ensure you provide your CDL number, class, expiration date, and any endorsements and/or restrictions.
  • The position(s) require(s) a Drug Screening be passed prior to being hired.
  • The position(s) require(s) a valid Class C driver’s license.
  • Climbs trees in excess of 40 feet by means of ropes or spurs.
Minimum Qualifications are:
  • Either I Nine months of experience in the California state service assigned to a tree maintenance crew, performing duties comparable in level to those of a Service Assistant (Maintenance). These duties include tree trimming and climbing work on trees of more than 40 feet in height.
  • Or II One year of tree trimming experience. This experience must have included trimming of trees of more than 40 feet in height and climbing work.

Subject to Bargaining Unit 12 Post & Bid. All eligible applications will be accepted but can only be considered if the position is not filled via Post & Bid.

This position is subject to the Post & Bid process.
