Job summary

Almstead Tree and Shrub Care in Stamford, CT, is seeking a Tree Climber to join our family-owned arboriculture team. You will assist the crew leader, perform climbing and ground duties, and help with pruning, rigging, and site setup.

We offer year-round work, competitive pay from $22 to $35 per hour based on experience, overtime, and a benefits package including health, dental, and a 401(k) plan.

Qualifications

• Two/four year degree in Arboriculture or 2+ years of tree care industry experience.
• Knowledge of pruning techniques including large shade trees and ornamentals.
• Ability to climb utilizing rope and saddle.
• Knowledge of rigging techniques and knots.
• Knowledge of native and introduced tree and shrub species and characteristics.
• Ability to safely operate and maintain chainsaws and other standard equipment.
• Experience with bucket truck operation.
• Valid Driver’s License, CDL preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform ground, climbing, and aerial lift duties as directed by crew leader.
• Assist in pruning, take-downs, cabling and bracing.
• Safely operate equipment.
• Participate in all job site safety briefings.
• Assist with driving, backing, dumping, and parking duties.
• Set up job sites, rigging, and clean up as required.
• Utilize knowledge of knotting and rigging concepts related to tree wounding/pruning.

Basic Function

Tree Climbers serve a pivotal role on tree care crews, with the primary responsibility of climbing and assisting the crew leader in the performance of all general tree work services.

Tree Climber Responsibilities

• Perform all required ground, climbing, and aerial lift duties in support of specific job assignments, as directed by crew leader.
• Assist in the performance of specialized pruning and take-downs, installing cabling and bracing.
• Safely operate equipment.
• Participate in all job site safety briefings.
• Perform proper climbing techniques and procedures, pruning skills, application of approved knots and rigging techniques.
• Assist with driving, backing, dumping, and parking duties.
• Perform ground duties such as job site set up, roping and rigging, felling, and job clean up as required.
• Utilize knowledge of compartmentalization and other concepts related to tree wounding/pruning.
