Job summary

Almstead Tree & Shrub Care is seeking a dedicated Grounds person to support tree care crews in CT, NY and NJ. You will assist climbers, perform ground duties, and help with pruning, cabling, and rigging under crew leadership.

The role requires handling chainsaws, chippers, stump grinders, and rigging equipment, with lifting up to 100 lbs. CDL and bilingual ability are a plus. Competitive benefits and year-round work are offered.

Qualifications

• Previous industry experience is desired.
• Knowledge of pruning techniques for large shade trees and ornamentals.
• Ability to operate chainsaw, chipper, stump grinder and log mover.
• Knowledge of rigging techniques and knots commonly used in tree work.
• Knowledge of native and introduced tree and shrub species is desirable.
• Ability to lift 50lbs and occasionally 80-100lbs with assistance.
• Valid Driver’s License and CDL.
• Bi-lingual is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Perform all required ground duties in support of specific job assignments, as directed by crew leader.
• Assist in the performance of specialized pruning and take-downs, installing cabling and bracing.
• Safely operate equipment.
• Participate in all job site safety briefings.
• Perform proper felling, limbing and bucking techniques with a chainsaw.
• Perform pruning from the ground with hand tools and pole saws, application of approved rigging techniques and knowledge of standard knots.
• Assist with driving, backing, dumping, and parking duties.
• Perform ground duties such as job site set up and clean up as required.
