Job summary

Almstead Tree & Shrub Care Company, LLC in Stamford, CT is seeking a Tree Climber to join our family-owned arboriculture team. You will assist the crew leader, perform ground, climbing and aerial lift duties, and help with pruning, cabling, and rigging as part of our safety-conscious crew.

We offer competitive pay from $22 to $35 per hour based on experience, plus overtime, health and retirement benefits, paid time off, and a supportive workplace culture.

Qualifications

• Two/ four year degree in Arboriculture or 2+ years of tree care experience.
• Knowledge of pruning techniques for large shade trees and ornamentals.
• Ability to climb using rope and saddle.
• Knowledge of industry standard rigging techniques and knots.
• Valid Driver’s License; CDL preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform all ground, climbing, and aerial lift duties as directed by crew leader.
• Assist in pruning, take-downs, cabling and bracing.
• Safely operate equipment.
• Participate in all job site safety briefings.
• Perform climbing techniques and knotting/routing as required.
• Assist with driving, backing, dumping, and parking duties.
• Set up job sites, rigging, felling, and clean up.
• Apply knowledge of pruning and wounding/pruning concepts.

Basic Function

Tree Climbers serve a pivotal role on tree care crews, with the primary responsibility of climbing and assisting the crew leader in the performance of all general tree work services.

Tree Climber Responsibilities

• Perform all required ground, climbing, and aerial lift duties in support of specific job assignments, as directed by crew leader.
• Assist in the performance of specialized pruning and take-downs, installing cabling and bracing.
• Safely operate equipment.
• Participate in all job site safety briefings.
• Perform proper climbing techniques and procedures, pruning skills, application of approved knots and rigging techniques.
• Assist with driving, backing, dumping, and parking duties.
• Perform ground duties such as job site set up, roping and rigging, felling, and job clean up as required.
• Utilize knowledge of compartmentalization and other concepts related to tree wounding/pruning.

• Two/four year degree in Arboriculture or 2+ years of tree care industry experience.
• Knowledge of pruning techniques including large shade trees and ornamentals.
• Ability to climb utilizing rope and saddle.
• Knowledge of industry standard rigging techniques and knots
• Knowledge of native and introduced tree and shrub species and characteristics of each species.
• Ability to safely operate and maintain chainsaws and other standard equipment.
• Experience with bucket truck operation.
• Valid Driver’s License, CDL preferred.
