Job summary

Stella-Jones Corporation seeks a plant operator in Whitmire, SC to handle daily treating operations, inspections and equipment control. You’ll work with boiler, pressure vessels and preservative systems while maintaining safety and quality standards.

Applicants should have a high school diploma or GED with experience in treating and chemical handling; pesticide license and boiler license are preferred. We offer benefits and a stable, essential workplace.

Responsibilities

• Operate and control treating plant systems according to operating procedures (boiler, vessels, preservative mix, transfer and storage).
• Perform inspector, machine operator (2) and laborer duties as required.
• Operate treating to meet target production levels; perform security duties.
• Participate in and support the company safety program.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

This role performs operational work related to daily work instructions, inspection, grading, treatment and materials. Operates the treating plant safely and proficiently.

• Operate and control systems by prescribed operating procedures, including, but not limited to the following major systems:
  • Boiler and pressure vessels, vacuum and condensate recovery systems, preservative mix, transfer and storage systems, hazardous and solid waste processing and storage, charge transfer tables and emergency response equipment
• Perform all duties of inspector, machine operator (2) and laborer positions as required
• Operate all aspects of treating at or above target production levels
• Performs security duties
• Participates and contributes to company safety program
• Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• Education:High School Diploma or GED
• Experience: One year treating experience preferred, must have experience working with chemicals
• License/Certification: Pesticide applicators license preferred; Boiler Operating License preferred, PIE Certified

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Required plant safety orientation
• Pass the state pesticide certification exam
• Respiratory training and pass the medical exam and fit test (clean shaved face may be required)
• Solid knowledge of all federal and state regulations related to the treating department
• Solid knowledge of quality control standards related to the treating department
• Solid knowledge of customer specifications
• Complete all required “Continuous Education Units” to keep pesticide certification
• Solid knowledge on hazardous waste regulations
• Performs other related duties as assigned
