Job summary

The City of Oak Harbor seeks an Accountant to perform intermediate-level analytical and accounting functions, including preparing financial reports for WA state requirements and City policies, using the City's financial systems to ensure data accuracy and serving internal and external customers.

The role includes month-end close activities, grant management, budget and CIP support, and collaboration with the Finance Director and city staff. Strong knowledge of GAAP, GASB, and BARS is essential.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or equivalent in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Public Administration, or related discipline.
• Three (3) years of professional work experience in finance, accounting, budget, statistics, forecasting, or internal audit, preferably in a government setting.
• Excellent computer operation skills with MS Excel and ERP systems; strong Word skills.

Responsibilities

• Prepare complex financial reports per GAAP, GASB, and BARS requirements.
• Maintain general ledger, internal controls, capital assets, and grant reporting.
• Coordinate annual financial reporting to State Auditor’s Office.
• Balance journal entries and reconcile city cash accounts monthly.
• Assist in capital planning, budget development, and CIP updates.
