The City of Austin AmeriCorps VISTA Program seeks a dedicated member to build capacity for Travis County through a strategic marketing plan and volunteer system. You will help low-income individuals by expanding access to resources and reducing barriers to services.

As part of a team, you will coordinate with CLS, public defenders, and local agencies to launch trainings and outreach, while gaining experience in grant writing, leadership, and community engagement.

Qualifikationen

• Bachelor’s degree or higher required.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience with fundraising or grant writing preferred.
• Knowledge of criminal justice systems and public service is a plus.
• Ability to lead, coordinate across teams and build partnerships.

The City of Austin AmeriCorps VISTA Program works with City departments and local nonprofits to build capacity, in order to provide resources and services to the Austin neighborhoods and communities that may otherwise be left behind by Austin's historic disparities and future growth. The AmeriCorps members serving with the City of Austin AmeriCorps VISTA Program work in such diverse fields as education, health, waste reduction, and housing to cover the myriad ways poverty affects these neighborhoods and communities. This VISTA member will increase the capacity of Travis County through a marketing plan and volunteer system, helping low-income individuals out of poverty by affordably improving their chances to stay out of the justice system.

Member Duties

• Coordinate cross-departmental relationships between CLS, re-entry coordinators, public defense providers, law enforcement agencies, prosecutorial offices, correctional facility staff, etc. to help establish a new Criminal Justice Coordinating Council in Travis County. Build a new event series of replicable Know-Your-Rights legal clinics hosted by Community Legal Services and the Capital Area Private Defender Service on various topics relevant to community needs. Locate host venues, recruit support from local advocacy organizations, and gather vulnerable communities who would benefit from trainings. Research grant research and in-kind fundraising efforts to serve as potential additional funding opportunities for expanded outreach initiatives.
